Should I even consider trading Halladay?(WHIR)

Postby kidsilk » Sat Jan 30, 2010 3:05 pm

10 team, 10x10 roto style, 5 keeper per year with no restrictions. I have a very strong pitching staff in my opinion and am getting offers for some of them. Most recently a guy in my league offered me Granderson and "someone else" for Roy Halladay. Please take a look at our rosters and let me know if you would even consider trading possibly the second best pitcher in baseball for anyone that he has? Thanks and leave your links.

I would ask for Kemp and Ubaldo for Halladay and an OF. I see Kemp about on the same level as Halladay, and if you can give a lesser OF than what Ubaldo is worth, then I think you come away a winner. It is worth a shot IMO. ;-D

There is no way you should deal THE BEST SP in baseball - especially now that he is in a much weaker division and league (NL). Tim won't be winning the CY Young this year Roy will add a NL Cy Young to his AL one (would have been more except for a couple freak injuries and the market he played in) Still should have beaten out Cliff Lee in '08 for it.

5th keeper toss up between Wright, Hamilton, Werth and McCutcheon. Depends if you think Wright and Hamilton will bounce back to previous years or if you want to go with a couple of guys who broke out last year. I would offer him back Wright and Harden for Kemp and then Kemp becomes your sure thing 5th keeper.

I like your halladay/felix combo. I doubt i'd do a deal unless you were getting Kemp.

Kemp for Halladay would be very nice.

Your OF is a little suspect so I could see you moving him to strengthen it. You've got some nice players there but mccutchen, stubbs, and snider haven't earned it yet.....

since you are only keeping 5, i would go after kemp or tulo, in that order. halladay for either of those 2 is more than fair and in any league i prefer keeping a top hitter over a top pitcher. also keep in mind the age difference. halladay is much, much older than kemp/tulo. i assume ur 4 keepers are arod, wright, halladay, felix then either agon or hamilton. i think if u can find a way to get kemp for halladay, arod/wright/kemp/felix/agon or hamilton would look much better. but unless your getting kemp or tulo, i would hold onto halladay.

help with mine?

Just looking at the rosters briefly, I think that you have 6 no-brain keepers and 3 maybes (Gonzo, Arod, Rollins, Wright, Halladay, Felix, and maybe Hamels, Oswalt, and Hamilton). I look at his team and see 3 no-brain keepers and another 3 maybes (Tulo, Kemp, Lincecum and maybe Bay, Broxton, and Nathan). Since you keep 5, right now he should be looking for more no-brainer keepers and you should be looking to trade two good keepers for one great one. I'd try to see if he'd be willing to part with Kemp for something like Hamels and Hamilton (or maybe Wright or something instead of Hamilton).

For the record, I wouldn't say Halladay is untouchable, but I wouldn't trade him in a deal where the centerpiece on the other side is Granderson. I also think those saying to try Halladay for Kemp are being overly optimistic (I think Kemp is a top-5 pick, whereas Halladay is in the 10-15 range), but if you could do Halladay and one of Hamels/Oswalt/Hamilton for Kemp, I'd do it.

Thanks for your help so far guys but I just wanted to clarify something. I already kept my five players and had the draft already so this is my team going forward. So, I don't need any keeper help.:) I am leaning on not trading Halladay at all unless Kemp is involved like you guys said but anymore opinions are very much welcomed. Thanks.
