Pick 8 Keepers from a Championship team

Postby oddmanout7 » Fri Jan 29, 2010 2:06 pm

I was league champion last year in a 12 team 5x5 roto league. We can have 8 keepers, and we also have a minor league roster with 3 guys on it. I am pretty certain on who my keepers will be, but I just received and interesting proposition.

C - Alex Avila
1B - Paul Konerko
2B - Dan Uggla
3B - Miguel Cabrera
SS - Hanley Ramirez
IF - Chris Davis
OF - Manny Ramirez
OF - Rajai Davis
OF - Denard Span
OF - Ryan Braun
UTL - Justin Upton
UTL - Jeff Francoeur

BN - Carlos Quentin
BN - Juan Rivera
BN - Jose Reyes
BN - Gordan Beckham

SP - Tim Lincecum
SP - Jon Sanchez
RP - Brian Fuentes
RP - Mike MacDougal
P - Ubaldo Jimenez
P - Ricky Nolasco
P - Jon Lester
P - Brandon Morrow

BN - Chad Qualls
BN - Johan Santana

That is my roster. I plan on keeping the following players:

1B - Miguel Cabrera
SS - Hanley Ramirez
OF - Justin Upton
OF - Ryan Braun
SS - Jose Reyes

SP - Tim Lincecum
SP - Jon Lester
SP - Johan Santana

Some other guys I considered were Quentin, Ubaldo, and GBeckham.

Then I received a trade offer of Wieters and a pick upgrade for Reyes and a throw in (Ubaldo who I wasn't planning on keeping).

The only reason I am considering this, is that I just don't know what to expect from Reyes. I know I already have Hanley at SS, but I can plug Reyes in at the IF spot.

My minor league roster if it helps at all
Mike Stanton, Jesus Montero, and soon Stephen Strasburg (after our draft).

What do you guys think?

Man oh man that is a great team!

Wieters is probably not as much of a health risk as Reyes is, but when healthy there is no denying that I'd rather have Reyes ANY DAY OF THE WEEK over an unproven Wieters.

If I were you, I would keep Reyes and try to draft a decent Catcher on draft day.

Reyes is great trade bait, isn't he? Wieters didn't do much yet. What's your pick upgrade? Enough to get Quentin? I kinda like Quentin over Reyes. Oh, and you can still get Strasburg? Duuuude. ;-D

What is that pick upgrade? I kind of like this trade. I am nost sure that Reyes will be back to his old self. So much of his value is in the SB and there is no guarantee that he will be back to his 50+ SB level. I think I might sell on him with Wieters.

It is definately a interesting option depending on what the pick is? Also, I would keep Uggla over Lester. Lester just doesn't do it for me, yes he a PG under his belt but so many other times I have seen him struggle I just don't trust him. Uggla is probably the most underrated 2B in fantasy baseball - I put him 4th behind Hill, Kinsler, Pedroia

wow what a crazy team...i personally hate this trade though unless the pick upgrade is a huge one...if u keep

braun
hanley
jose
cabrera
upton
lincecum
johan
lester

i mean what category are you not elite in. i love the 3 pitchers, i personally think you have 2 of the top 5 and lester bein in the top 10. braun hanley upton all 5 category stars. cabrera is your huge hr and rbi guy while keepin a 300 average. then u keep jose to pretty much wrap up steals on a weekly basis since you combining him wit upton braun and hanley...not to mention you have 2 of the top 4 ss's on your roster...i wouldnt change a damn thing unless you get a serious serious upgrade.

any help on my thread is greatly appreciated!

The pick upgrade is still up in the air, but I think I can get a 2nd rnd pick for a later pick from me. The 2nd rnd pick is more like a 10th rnd pick after keepers, but there should be some good talent still available. I am still undecided, but leaning towards no at the moment. Anymore comments?
