Poor house. Is this Boras' greatest failure? If he had opened up at 2/$20M I think the Yankees might have ended up signing him. I heard rumblings before the Vazquez trade that they had offered him 2/$14M. They seem(ed) to be completely oblivious to what has happening to 2nd tier players. It seems for those types that the best deals the last 2 seasons have been signed in the first couple weeks of FA. Kudos to Cashman for reading the market well the last 2 offseasons regarding Damon and Abreu.

I have to say advising Varitek against accepting arbitration for 1/$10 is up there, too.

cracks me up.
Every year that's all we ever hear about, Boras greatest failure. lol .. Two years ago, ARod was Boras greatest failure, even though ARod got more money .. The whole anger towards Boras kills me anyways .. You''d rather the team owner just pocket the coin?

I've never thought the Arod contract was a failure, it's hard to say that when it is the largest contract ever. I also didn't say anything about being angry at Boras, I just think he misread the market pretty badly on Damon.
Man, I love Johnny and was holding out hope that he'd be back. I mean, Cashman read this market gloriously but at some point why not just call him and offer $5 million for the year and be done with it. If he refuses then so be it. I'm really sad to see him go.
Looks like he'll come at a huge discount. Not sure if it will (or if I want it to) happen but wouldn't it be funny if the Tigers signed Damon.
They would be getting A Jackson, Coke and Damon (and Schlereth) all for less than what they would have paid Granderson. Meaning the Yankess gave up one of the stars of their world series run, a pretty good prospect a good bullpen arm and more money for Granderson.
Save ~ $3 million in 2010 (more over the next couple years) and get 3/4 solid players back...tough to argue with that if your a Tigers fan...
