However, the device does not have a camera and lacks the ability to make phone calls. It is not able to work with the ubiquitous Flash software that runs many Web sites. Apple is selling accessories that include a stand and a keyboard.
Mr. Jobs positioned the iPad as a device that is between a laptop and a smartphone, but which performs certain functions better than either of them, like browsing the Web, reading e-books and playing video.
How is a cross btw a smart phone and a computer useful for much when unlike a phone, it cannot make phone calls, and unlike a computer, it cannot play flash.
If I wanted to read an e-book, kindle is cheaper.

That doesn't make phone calls.

iPad is probably the worst kept tech secret in some time. For I think over two years, Apple has been rumored to release a tablet computer although it was about a month or two ago, that it was basically certain it was coming out. Some were grumbling at the CES floor a few weeks ago about it, but they should've known better than that to know Steve Jobs would never show off any new Apple creations at a massive trade show like CES.
Anyhow, it does look cool, but as some said, it's practically a massive iPod Touch that wants to be an iMac. It should be interesting to see if the consumer interest would be greater with this one because tablet computers in the past have fallen flat on their faces in the market when the interest wasn't as widespread as hoped.
A few things to note: you have to pay more for 3G and it's on AT&T's network, which already struggles with transferring iPhone data. There isn't an SD card slot for portable storage, unfortunately.
On a similar tangent, it would be really cool if Sony made on as a PSP Tablet. This would be a really cool gaming platform too, although Apple's Appstore for iPad will also cater games.

My best friend is even more stoked than you. Ever since I've known him in college (2004), he always had Apple shares, kept buying more and didn't have the urge to sell them. Well, this is one of those days he goes bonkers about his Apple stock again.
Funny thing is, he's not an Apple fanboy nor does he have any Apple devices.
