Our league's stat threshold for a player to be considered a minor league player is 100 GP for a position player and either 18 GS or 30 APP for a pitcher. We draft minor leagues and auction for major leaguers... once a minor leaguer is called up, he's assigned a $1 contract value and if he's kept after that his price increases by $4 each year. So Wieters was the top pick, will be called up immediately and kept for $5 for 2011. That said I'd like opinions on the first six rounds of this draft (we're going 15 rounds). Who did the best, who did the worst (well I know that... what about the 2nd worst).
EDIT I have posted a reply on the 2nd page w/ the next four rounds... I'd love to hear opinions on these four rounds and overall. Thanks guys... I'm running this league (my real name is Marshall... I'm not a mule) and the feedback has been really interesting and great.

As an aside... we got to round 8 of this slow draft and two owners decided they wanted in so they drafted 8 and we continued the draft. Once things are done I'll post a follow up post to get more opinions.
Thanks in advance.

I understand what Keith B was doing, but I don't think it will work for him. I think Keith P cleaned up. The other three in the top group are not far behind. Actually the first 8 are pretty close, and the order of the second four could easily be flipped around depending on who like most.

I don't get this draft order at all, some players went way to long with out being drafted. Steve-o's rankings were pretty good, and if Kieth B wanted to draft the worst players with no upside... he succeeded wonderfully
Keith B has a strategy where he's trying to pick low risk guys that will play this year so he can make a push to win this year... I just don't think he picked a lot of the right guys. As for some guys falling... I think that happens in a lot of minor league drafts just because people tend to go to favorite teams or the hyped systems. We started Jan. 3rd so a lot of the info on minor league guys hadn't started coming out or was only half posted (like BA didn't have their team by team top 10 completed) and the guys in this league have a varying amount of minor league experience. Anymore opinions?

I am Ryan in this draft. Steve is a good buddy of mine, but outside of his Smoak pick, I dont think his draft was that fantastic. Which picks of his are outstanding? I think that all of his choices saw a similar player drafter later, most times a couple of rounds later.
What are some of the guys that lasted way too long?

Hicks. Best value pick in the draft. Westmoreland and Trout were also good picks imo (although I am higher on Trout than most).

You're right that none are outstanding besides Smoak, but he didn't hurt himself at all either. Lotsa potential.
Sounds like a good league with knowledgeable guys. As I said previously, any of the top 8 are probably good fantasy players and it's certainly possible that the difference in rankings above was based almost entirely on the draft order.

Keith P-Ended up with 3 of my 4 highest ranked prospects (I guess 3 out of 5 since Weiters is a prospect in your league). He pretty much dominated this draft. Adam-6 solid picks Mashall-Also 6 good picks Ryan-I like the Casey Crosby pick a lot. Steve-No bad picks, but no great ones either. Josh-Weird draft. Overdrafted a couple guys, than got a couple steals. If they were taken in the order: Feliz, Ackley, Hicks, Beckham, Ynoa, Carrasco I think I'd like it more. Brian-Some really good pitching, but I don't like taking 5 pitchers in the first 6 picks. Andrew-Was doing really well for the first 4 rounds. Than 2 awful picks. Dennis-Heyward and Taylor picks were really good. The others were bad. Hard to give too much credit when the top prospect falls in your lap at #3. Keith B-I like Chacin & Brignac but hate his strategy. Have seen people in my league try it and it doesn't work. Not to mention Heyward, Matusz, Escobar and about 3 undrafted guys (don't want to name them since the draft is still going) and possibly Feliz, Posey & Strasburg all have more value for 2010 alone than Jake Fox.

Ha, I was talking about Steve-o the poster, not your friend. Sorry for the mix up.
I thought Matt LaPorta could have gone a little higher. Should be the starting 1B for the Indians this year, seems like a nice combo of upside and help now. Same cpuld be said for Blanks.
