Here are the results from my league's minor league draft that just ended. Keep in mind that people like Chapman are not eligible for our minor leagues along with Japanese imports. Just curious to see an outsider's opinion.

My rankings take into consideration the number and quality each team had.
TOR-Did very well. Probably #1 even without all the 5th round picks. Lyles is a steal at 15. May & Castro had good value where selected. Then adding Fields, Pimental, Girchuk & Skaggs in the 5th puts him way ahead of the rest. BOS-Colome slipped way too far. Castro is good value and Morel & Bethancourt are good late picks. LAD-I like Trout & Stassi. Brothers & Miller should have gone a lot higher. ARZ-Took arguably the top guy on the board at every pick. CIN-Lots of upside with every pick. MIL-4 solid picks. My league has similar guys available. I don't like seeing Norris go this high because it means I won't get him. NYY-Also 4 solid picks. SEA-2 good pitchers & hitters with Freidrich, Vizcano, Neal & Forsythe TBA-Not much to work with but 2 high upside picks. PHI-Tough to rank. I would rather have Arnett & Jackson than Mejia & Rondon. BAL-Myers is a good pick. I like Norriega, but he may be a reach at 14. Don't like the other 3. OAK-I like Espinosa and Sizemore could help immediately, but nothing too exciting. STL-I like Cashner where he was taken. Montgomery went at about the right time. Don't like the other picks. NYM-Jenkins was a good pick. Darnell went about where he should have gone. I don't like Minor or Wheeler. COL-I hate every pick except Proffar. I do like him a lot, so that saved him from the bottom. SDP-2 relief pitchers and a SP with a low ceiling. Pelzer is the only bright spot.

I will take that assessment. With only two picks, I passed on a few higher ranked guys to get some youth that could break out this coming year and make this draft worthwhile for me. Renfroe and Bailey both would have been drafted much higher in this past amateurs draft if concerns about injury or signing had not held them back some. If Bailey is healthy, I think he easily shoots up the Rays minor league charts this season.
i was asked to reply to this thread the other day, and i didn't because mblax is not in the league so he doesn't understand the whole environment.
but i have been asked to defend my self again, so i guess i have too.
Personally, I feel there is no reason to have to defend myself here. In a year or three, i'll just link to the results. Everyone of my minor league picks that has made it to the show, is now signed by some team somewhere. Many for five or six years. And I am not talking first round picks here either .. well all except one. Lillibridge.
I have a certain strategy in these drafts that i try to adhere to. Each season I have refined it a tad more, but its not that hard to figure out if you are paying attn.
As for the relief pitcher comments, Zach Stewart is being stretched out to start since the trade to Toronto, Everything i have read, and its been a ton, i didn't just fall off a turnip truck, says Toronto is going to put him in the rotation. Giving him quite a bit of upside.
The other reliever i took in the second is an obvious pick. Storen could be the closer within the year in Washington, and he cost me nothing. If not, next year. I doubt he hits the IP minimum for me to have to sign him so I get two years to watch, but IMO he will be a closer soon.
Personally i think all you guys drafting catchers are the fools. MLB starting catchers sell for a buck or three at auction, and if he works out, you can sign your hot new catching prospect for three or four bucks ... where is the value?
we had four catchers taken in the first 30 picks? really? catchers?
Yeah, I've got a couple guys in my league like you. Last year they were picking guys like David Huff and Chris Dickerson while I got Montero & Alvarez. I guess I lost out because my guys haven't made the majors yet. Their guys provided negative value.
You're right, I don't know you're league setup. I can't imagine what it is that makes potential closers worth spending a high minor league pick on and quality catchers easily obtainable.
I realized some people think Stewart can be a SP. I'm not one of them. Even if he makes it, he has 2 pitches. One of which is a 90 MPH fastball. No thanks. I'm glad you're happy with your draft. I just hope you haven't spent too many of your 24k posts evaluating minor league talent.
