If you wanted a short-term closer these guys would be way, way, way cheaper then Valverde, and not completely horrible.

i'm starting to hate it less, but still not a big fan of it. i know draft picks are a crapshoot, but with the Tigers recent willingness to pay out big MiLB contracts they may have gotten Top 10 talent or better at pick #19. the silver lining is that they can always flip him at the deadline (this year or next year) if they arent in contention

This year: No one will assume a 10.5 million dollar contract for Valverde
Next Year: You will get nothing of worth for a half year of Valverde at 3.5

I may be biased, but I particularly don't think Austin Jackson is good. And this has been from following him throughout the Y Organization. And I think the Yankees sold high on Austin. If the Tigers, put him in the Majors to start the season, I think he will be overly exposed with his plate discipline.

Coke simply is not good, you will learn that yourself over time. Love Mad Max, tho.

His line since May 13th and on is 39/156 with 10 doubles, 8 BB to 43 K. That is a .250/.286/.314 line with an absolutely pathetic .600 OPS. Why are you using runs to judge him? He is a leadoff hitter? Of course he will get his Runs. But from May on he has been one of the worst lead off hitters in the game.

Lol, Gonna mightly struggle to accumulate 5 HR this year.

So what we have...a leadoff hitter that:
1.) One of the highest K% in the game
2.) Can not walk
3.) Can not hit for power
4.) Poor ability to get OB, even at passable clip

I mean, whatever floats your boat. Pitchers have made their adjustments, and now the ball is in his court.

Make what you want of Phil Coke. He didn't spend 6 seasons in the minors for no reason. Happy he has pitched extremely well these past three months, but you will learn of Long Ball Phil.


I am not evaluating that trade as of now because that trade will take a few years to put everything in perspective (Granderson LHP, Ajax maturing, Kennedy, etc), but Max Scherzer is a god amongst men. I love him, so so much.
