i think this will bump vlad up in the standings some even as a DH. Rotoworld is saying they believe he will get some sporadic OF play and will at NL fields, likely gaining him OF stats by july.

There was a lot of conflicting reports on this yesterday (some saying they hadn't talked in weeks), but now the rangers official reporter says its done, vlad is a Ranger. Can't wait!
wow, solid move for the rangers but smoak's fantasy value takes a major hit. we may see smoak later, rather than sooner now. i thought we'd see smoak/davis switching between first/DH by at the latest, late may but that won't happen now until vlad gets hurt and/or davis struggles. maybe this is a blessing in disguise for many dynasty owners bcuz it could make some people weary of drafting him early bcuz of the threat of being on the farm all yr, but maybe not. who knows, it's still january

I think it's unlikely that he plays in the OF before interleague unless a couple of injuries happen. the Rangers have 4 OF'ers capable of playing CF on their roster. Vlad is such a massive downgrade defensively that I don't see it happening. Well maybe if a guy like hamilton is hitting but is dinged up and needs time at DH.

Agreed. With the four outfielders they have going into ST right now, I don't see a reason to put him out there barring injuries or someone hitting a major slump early.
