Should I do this deal

Postby Orionwest » Mon Jan 04, 2010 9:35 pm

18 team Dynasty league 6x6 (Holds & OPS) where we keep our entire roster from the previous season.

I would be giving up Zack Greinke who is the last year of his contarct (in my league) and I would be getting Tim Beckham and Josh Vitters who both once called up will get a 5 year contract.

My team won the championship last season and with Greinke I have a decent shot at trying to repeat. My other SP's are Czam, Buehrle, James Shields, Scott Baker and Homer Bailey.

been said several times this week, "play to win now"; you won't win w/o Greinke

If you got a decent shot at going for a repeat, go for the gold man and turn down the trade.

I wouldn't part with Greinke for that package whether he's in the last year of his contract or not. Both prospects are in the low minors, thus very hard to project. While I understand the interest in dealing Greinke in the last year of his contract, you can shoot for a lot more then that. I'd aim for another useful but not necessarily a "sexy name," starting pitcher in the last year of their contract for another owner and deal Greinke to them for said pitcher and a stud high minors prospect. Even if he's only got one year I've gotta imagine Greinke will have a lot of appeal to other owners. Shoot for a max value deal. Overall I like the idea of trying to move an expiring contract, especially since I get the impression your team is good enough to have a legit shot with or without Greinke this year... just don't completely forget about this year.

Beckham and Vitters are far away from the big times but they arent the caliber of Greinke. Id rather go with great proven talent than unproven talent. I'd say keep Greinke and go for a repeat chance.

You cannot do that deal. Even in the last year of a contract, Greinke should still net you something that will help you now and in the future, not just 2 prospects that are a long way off.

I'd shoot for more out of Greinke. I wouldn't feel that comfortable with a five year deal for both of those prospects, more so with Vitters.

I agree with the others. Greinke is worth a lot more than this. Maybe I look at some young unproven SP like Price or Matusz and do a multi player deal for one of those guys but don't give up a stud SP for two maybe prospects.
