I like Beltre (as I noted earlier), but do you really think it's in Oakland's best interest to offer him multiple years when they are still a couple years away from contending for the division?

I'm surprised he couldn't get 2/18 or 2/20. Good signing for Boston.

We're supposedly going with the elite defense strategy (Crisp in LF etc), so yes it is worth it.
If you want defense you might as well get the best.

EDIT: Plus 3B has been a black hole for a while, and Cardenas might not be "it".

As much as I've never been big on Brandon, those are about as small as sample sizes as you can find for 3 years. He really deserved more of a shot last year, though he did pretty much stumble around with what they did give him. I'm glad he finally is getting a shot, 4 years in AAA would of been the equivalent of a death sentence for a prospect.
