Beltre to Boston?

Postby nsulham » Mon Jan 04, 2010 8:13 pm

Free agent third baseman Adrian Beltre is "close to a deal" with the Red Sox, according to SI.com's Jon Heyman.
The A's recently pulled their offer to Beltre off the table and the other teams with interest have probably been outbid. The 30-year-old infielder is a superb defensive third baseman and it appears he will man the position for Boston in 2010. The tight confines of Fenway Park may help his power numbers see a resurgence.

If he's healthy, 20+ homers, great defense and .260+ is alright, if not a little unexciting. If 2010 is labeled as 'the return of 2004', then I'll change my mind. :-D

He's still only 30 years old and getting out of Seattle can't do anything to hurt his offensive output. Surprised the Angels didn't step up to pull him in.

I'm thinking that {alien edit} Boras only wanted a 1 year deal to rebuild his value for next year.
Obviously he just waited until someone with a good park for hitting (Boston) joined the fray.
The A's probably had no chance, and I hope this plan blows up in Boras' face spectacularly. :-C

Why would he rather play for Oakland than Boston....especially if building his value back up is the goal. Really worked for Holliday..... :-o

Good signing for the Red Sox, and screw Boras. But with Ortiz a fixture at DH and Youk being blocked at 3B now, doesn't this also mean that they're out of the Adrian Gonzalez sweepstakes?

Because we were most likely offering multiple years.

Yeah but Beltre isn't a lego-headed, stone faced, corporate douche. :-b
