Keeper Help WHIR

Postby fang » Sat Jan 02, 2010 9:53 pm

Hey, I'm in a 30 Team Dynasty League in which I took the Mariners. I have to pick 8 keepers and 20 minor league keepers. It's a H2H 12 Cats of BA, R, HR, RBI, SB, OPS, and W, S, ERA, WHIP, K, HLDS.

I have a $105M cap and I'm planning on keeping,

C -
CI -
CI - Chone Figgins 10:$8M, 11:$9M, 12:$9M, 13:$8M, 14:$9M vesting option
MI - Jose Lopez 10:$2.3M, 11: $4.5M
MI -
OF - Ichiro Suzuki 10: $17M 11: $17M 12: $17M
OF - Milton Bradley 10:$9M, 11:$12M
OF - Franklin Gutierrez PP-11 $.4M

SP - Cliff Lee 10: $8M
SP - Felix Hernandez: $3.8M
SP -
RP -
RP -
RP -
P -
P -
P -

I'm not quite sure who I should use as my last keeper for the MLB Roster.

Then I also really have no clue about the M's minor league players. I've heard of Carp, Saunders, and then I have no clue, if anyone can help me with this stuff it would be greatly appreciated.

My last Major League keeper would be Brandon League. I like him much better then David Aardsma and believe he'll be the closer at somepoint this season and going forward. His contract will be a drop in the bucket to your cap, so that's a nice perk too. As far as the minors, unfortunately I'm not to well versed in the M's system but I see you neglecting to mention SS prospect Carlos Triunfel. If you want some advice about the M's minor league system I'd suggest PM'ing Big Pimpin as he's an M's die hard ;-D

I disagree B-Chad...I think you should keep Aardsma at this point...in a 30 team league, you really want to start with an established roster than make adjustments from there--you can pick up League in FA cheaper than Aardsma for sure!

As for minor leaguers, Triunfel is the big one!! Gotta keep him for sure, also, Carp, Saunders, Bryan LaHair, ADAM MOORE, Greg Halman, the pitcher Seattle got from KC for Betancourt (name escapes me at the moment...Duffy?), Matt Tuisasasopo...Those are the biggest names you should know

Lets see, there's 30 MLB teams, so it should follow that there's only 30 closers available, maybe you should keep the current closer, and handcuff him to B.League in the draft.

I believe they got Daniel Cortes in the Betancourt deal.

On a side note, while Aardsma will be the closer going into next year, I don't think he'll keep the job. I'm curious if he has a salary yet in your league? Unless he and the M's agreed to a deal, he'll be going to arbitration correct? Coming off his past season I'd guess that means a decent arbitration award, and I wouldn't want to use any chunk of my $105 million payroll on a guy who I don't have faith in long term (his walk rate and complete inability to induce GB's lend themselves to future problems). Give me the extra money and the opportunity to spend it elsewhere accordingly. That's just my opinion though.

Bryan LaHair no longer qualifies as a prospect due to 150 MLB ABs.

And thank you everyone, I've chosen Aardsma as my last keeper but still have time to change. And I might decide not to keep Milton and go hard for Holliday in FA.

And thank you for the list pacotaco27.

I'm a little embarassed in myself for not coming up with this thought earlier... what about keeping both Aardsma and League and tossing Bradley back? That would free up a ton of cash this year, and more next year. Using holds adds to League's value (though adding OPS helps Bradley's too). I guess I'd also hate to lose out on League as a handcuff.

Question... what happens if you don't keep Bradley, is he a free agent you can bid on, or does someone owning him have to take him at his current $9 million salary?

The player gets sent into the MLB Leftover Draft which includes all players not kept. By tomorrow or the next day, I will be able to tell you all of the mentionable FAs. It's a 30 team draft and I have the 17th pick, the draft does not snake.
