Keeper Quandary - WHIR

Postby BillyHallDisciple » Sat Jan 02, 2010 1:16 pm

12-team h2h 5x5 mixed league...

We have a $230 salary maximum (it's an auction league), player values increase by $5 each year - the values shown here are 2010 values.

Anyways I need to drop at least one of the following higher-price players:
Braun $52
Utley $50, or
Holliday $41.

I can re-bid on anyone I drop, but their values would be right around where they are now. I'm thinking Utley might be odd-man-out because I have Aaron Hill at 2B, I would just need to get a new MI. But it's nice having Utley/Hill at my 2B/MI slots 'cause that combo is far superior to where my league-mates are at in these positions. The other thing is that Braun's price tag is a bit high, but he's a top 4 player and if he's thrown out for re-bid, he will go for around $50 in the auction. Like I said, I'm feeling stuck - any help is much 'preciated.

I'm pretty much set on keeping the following other players:
McCann $22
Teixeira $39
Jeter $18
Lincecum $18
Ubaldo $7

Thanks for the help with mine - I'm going to throw a disclaimer out with my response - I've never played in an auction/salary league.

I'd hate to make a decision without knowing where Holliday is going to end up.

With that said, I don't know that I'd throw Utley back into the mix, because I wouldn't want to be relying on Aaron Hill to produce at last years clip - His HR/FB% increased a ton last year, as did his ISO.

So, depending on where Holliday ends up, I cut him or Braun. My gut, without really understanding the values, is that Braun is worth the extra $11.

Thanks for the help with mine. Braun is a keeper in my opinion, even at that cost. So it's down to Utley and Holliday. Utley plays at a more difficult position to fill, however Holliday is a bit younger. The fact that you have Hill makes letting Utley go a bit easier. My gut says go safe and cut loose Holliday.

Where is HIll? those prices are max'd in a $260 league, in a $230 I would throw 'em all back in

Petedog IMHO has it nailed on! I'd let Holliday walk too!

Oops, forgot to put Hill down, he's a $10 value next year.

I know those prices seem high, but in our auction people always bid high on the elite players.

I would dump Utley at $50, but I would try to move Hill, dont trust the man, and this is coming from a guy that has had him a couple of time in a few leagues...

Fantasy sports are ruled by the 50-50-90 rule...

Anytime you have a 50/50 choice between two players, 90% of the time, you'll get it wrong
