Big Trade...Deep Dynasty League...WHIR

Postby uk_bosox » Sat Jan 02, 2010 5:54 am

Deep 24 team mixed league

I give Dan Haren, Scott Sizemore

and get

Carl Crawford
Ted Lilly
1st round 2010 draft pick

My starting pitching is weak
Haren, Dan
Niemann, Jeff
Richard, Clayton
Zito, Barry
Davies, Kyle
Kennedy, Ian

so I'd take a hit but I have very good prospects a year or two away

My outfield could do with some jump too

Cust, Jack
Soriano, Alfonso
Venable, Will
Teahen, Mark

Your advice, as always is appreciated.

Regards

It's hard to say. Do you know who might be available for the pick you'd receive? Knowing that could help us to break it down a little more. Also, with your weak pitching, I'm not sure I'd want to trade away an ace (well, 1st half ace at least).

My main concern at this point is with Crawford. I've actually been connected to him in several deals in my league and have yet to pull the trigger on a deal for him. Can we trust his knees? Sure he stole 60 last year, but 21 came in one month and he only had 16 SBs post ASB. Finally, what stat cats does your league use? In a 5 X 5, Craw has nicer value than say a 6 X 6 with SLG or OPS.

If you can answer these questions, I'd love to give you better insight. In the meantime, would you mind returning the favor?

I'd also be interested to know who you might be able to get with that first-round pick, because that could be the difference-maker in the deal. To echo plapre3's thoughts, Crawford's value is tied to his speed, so any injury whether it be major or nagging could negatively impact his value a lot... if I were gonna deal someone like Haren for offense, I'd want to make sure I was getting someone with a broader skill set at the plate.

Ted Lilly is ok but yeah, you'd be left without an ace and in a 24-team mixed league, that's tough to overcome. Haren is pretty much in his prime, a durable 29-year old pitcher who's had two straight years of 200+ K's and four straight years of 200+ IP.

Help with mine if you can, I'll also check back later to see your response on the 1st-round pick you'd be getting:

I really concur re the 'ace pitcher' thought and it's what is playing on my mind. Lilly has always been a robust pitcher but at 34 would probably start to decline. Having said that Haren's post all-star stats are spookily similar and that leads me to throw the trade back in my favour?

The draft pick would probably be a top 8-12 pick out the talent available from the 2010 MLB draft.

Thanks for your thoughts on Crawford, but I'd still rank him #3 OF behind Braun and Kemp!
