The only way I would go for Tex is if you are confident that you can trade for a 3B should there be nothing available in the draft. If you get Tex, you can either trade Pena and one of your 2B for a 3B as good or almost as good as Zimm. And if worst came to worst you could probably flip Tex for another 3B. The reason I'm inclined to say get Tex is, he is obviuosly the better player in the deal.

I'd do that in a heartbeat. Tex is the better player and plays for a better team. Zimm is good, but Tex is better. Worry about covering 3B later. Grab the better player now.

Zimmerman will give you similar numbers (except for just a few less HR) at a more premium position, so I would simply not do the deal.

First off, Teixiera is NOT a first rounder, I dont know why people are so enamored by him. YES HE'S GOOD. But he's a 35/120 .300 hitting FirstBasemen....?

he's only hit 40 HR's ONCE in his career, he just played a full season at the new yankee little league field and hit 39, sure he could hit more, but he didn't....

Zimmerman went 33/106 and batted .292 last year and is ONLY 25 years old coming into this year (on the rise). Highly touted, elite pedigree. NOT A ONE YR WONDER.

I would not trade zimmerman for tex for the main reason that you donthave a 3B then. And saying "YOU CAN TRADE A 2B FOR ONE" is a great theory.... does anyone in your league have two GOOD 3B and need a 2B???? ODDS ARE NO.

I just think tex is overvalued, you're trading for maybe 5-10 HR's? and 20 RBI's? Thats if Zimmerman doesn't progress? Not worth the position eligibility.

TEX = WAY OVERVALUED

I agree that Teix isn't even close to a first rounder, especially given where I'm drafting Berkman now (who I still think has some pop despite subpar 2009). Much rather address position scarcity up there with Mauer/Reyes or Utley/Kinsler. The only definite first round 1B are Pujols and Fielder.

Are you serious? To say Teix isn't a first rounder is absolutely retarded. You say all you want about him hitting in a little league park, but a HRs a HR, and he hits moonshots. Teix WILL hit more HRs now that he will have protection for the first month of the year via A-Rod, go look at his numbers from April last year, if you figure he played in April like he did during the rest of the months, he's a 45 HR guy.

45 HR sounds like a Yankee fanboy. I'd expect Tex to hit closer to his career norm of about 33 HR, while Berkman and Votto will bounce back and hit about 28. Is 5 HR and minimal difference in the other stats worth like 3 or 4 rounds difference? Maybe 1 round better than those guys tops. 1B is too deep this year to splurge at the top, unless it's Pujols or maybe Prince.

Lets leave the NAME out of this:

35/120 and a .300 average is not first round material. PERIOD.

I dont care if he hits moonshots, laserbeams, or Monster mashes.... We are talking fantasy baseball right? Its about the numbers and position eligibility.

First base is the DEEPEST position in baseball. TEX is going 6th overall at MDC. Thats absolutely insane. Ahead of Prince? and Howard? Thats a joke, he should be in the 13-18 range.

You might want to check TEX's stats from april and may EVERY YEAR before you say with arods protection he's going to hit 45. Then you'd notice that Texiera is a traditionally slow starter.

April/March a career .249 hitter

Doesn't matter wherehe's hit with who in front of him or behind him.

What makes TEX a first rounder over miggy, prince, howard, kemp, lincecum, mauer, and longo?

He doesn't steal, he doesn't play at a scarce position, and he's not worth a first round pick....

You have to do this deal. How many teams in your league? With only 5 keepers, there will be a bunch of decent 3B options out there not being kept that I would be happy to have paired with Tex.

I would also look at dealing one of your two 2B. You could probably get a decent 3B out of the deal as well if you really want one as a keeper.

There's 8 3rd basemen worth having this year,
Arod
Wright
Reynolds
Zimmerman
Longoria
Aramis
Youk
Pablo

and 2 of them also play 1st, so to say there will be a decent option to pair with Teix, is pure speculation. Me I'm playing Pena/Zimm, you can play Teix/Young-Cantu-Stewart-Chipper-Beltre etc.
