Zimm for Teix?(WHIR)

Postby kidsilk » Fri Jan 01, 2010 7:12 pm

5 man keeper league, mixed league, 5x5 roto style. We have to cut down to 8 players in two days and then to 5 by the draft. I inherited this team this year. I have been offered Mark Teixeira for my Ryan Zimmerman. Normally I would do this in a second but I am worried about position scarcity. I am not sure what other 3rd basemen will be kept and who I could get in the draft.

Here is my roster and who I probably will keep if I don't do this trade:

Matt Kemp ;-D
Mike Cameron
JD Drew
Franklin Gutierrez
JJ Hardy
Aaron Hill ;-D
Dustin Pedroia ;-D
Carlos Pena ;-D
AJ Pierzynksi
Cody Ross
Denard Span
Ryan Zimmerman ;-D
Brad Bergesen
Chad Billingsley ;-D
Chris Carpenter ;-D
Aaron Cook
Armando Galaraga
Matt Garza
Chad Gaudin
Manny Parra
Jake Peavy ;-D
Mike Pelfrey
Scott Richmond
Francisco Rodriguez
Wandy Rodriguez

Should I do the deal and who should I keep? Thanks.

I would do the deal. Teixeira is better than Zimmerman.

You have two good 2B. I would do the deal and explore trading one of them for a 3B.

Also, I agree with your keepers.

I'd keep Zimmerman, you still have plenty of power in Pena at 1st, and I think you'll find it hard to find someone at 3rd to pair with Teix that will be better than Zimm/Pena.

i like ur keepers u have chosen. Also having 2 strong 2B is nice, but if u feel like upgrading, im sure there are guys looking for a 2B, you could package one of them with another of ur keepers for a large upgrade somewhere. Since you have to cut it down to 5, mine as well try to get the best 5 ya can.

thanks for the help with mine :-D

Absolutely make that trade!! Tex is better than Zim!! and you can trade one of your 2nd Baseman for a 3rd baseman if you can't get one in the draft!

I'd probably stand pat. While in a vacuum I like Teix better, in context I'd rather have Zimmerman. Not sure what your keeper trade rules are, but I'd give strong consideration to pairing Pena and one of your 2B for a 1B in the class of A-Gonz/Morneau if you can get a bite. Pena's power is nice but his BA is a mess in a roto league. On a side note... if nothing changes with your roster between now and final cuts I'd probably keep:

Zimmerman/Kemp/Pena/Pedroia/Hill

While keeping two 2B isn't ideal (unless you play with a MI), I just see Hill as being a better keeper option then Carpenter/Billingsley/Peavy since all three pitchers have risk attached (Carp health/Billingsley miserable second half and control/Peavy changing leagues and health coming off last year) and Hill's risk would seem to be posting a 80-20-90 .290 season instead of the monster year he posted this past season. Just my two cents though... on a side note, I'd imagine he'd be a greater bargaining chip then the three pitchers as well.

I too would stick with Zimmerman without knowing what 3b are going to be there in the draft. I also never thought I would say to turn down Tex for him but I guess it just goes to show that knowing the situation is more important than names sometimes.

help with mine?

I guarantee Pena/Zimm, will net you better numbers than Teix/and what's left at 3rd.
