Rookie keeper help- Coghlan or Andrus

Postby grandpa » Wed Dec 30, 2009 10:59 pm

12 team keeper league- keep 7 plus 1 rookie and 2 minors. My 7 keepers are set and minors, but not sure about my rookie keeper. Last year, in my head to head total points league, Coghlan finished as the 31st ranked OF with 500 ABS. Once he was called up, he was the 8th best OF for the rest of the year- projected over full 600 ABS, he would have finished as the 13th best OF and 37th overall bat.

Andrus is a young stud, but he scored significantly less points then Coghlan with roughly same ABs. Not sure what to do- not sure which one would come off board earlier in draft as top SS will be kept and guys like Tejada, Scutaro, Escobar, will be in the draft.

Which lineup below looks better- with Coghlan at U or Andrus at SS before draft?

C- VMart
1b- Berkman
2b- Beckham
SS- Andrus???
3b- Longoria
OF- Holliday
OF- Sizemore
OF- A. Jones
U- Coghlan???

Minor- Wade Davis
Minor- Austin Jackson

I will draft all arms all draft as Davis is my only arm now as I traded Johan in off-season to get Longo.

Thanks and WHIR

how many OF do you start, 3 must be it? How much did you play Coghlan last year? Do you use a middle infield position? I'd have a tuff time liking Cog in a 36 OF league vs the weak SS position

If you're looking to lock up some speed at SS, Elvis will certainly give you that, there's always 10-15 SBs in the outfield on the wire.

I'd go Andrus over Coghlan. Young, Speed, Position, in a better line up. He's got a nice future. Better real life than fantasy. But not too shabby with the bat.

I go with Andrus because I feel he has more upside at a thinner position.

What you need to remember about Coghlan, is that to reach the lofty he numbers he sported for ROY, he hit .372 in the second half, don't think that will happen again.

Andrus by far. More upside, more SBs, and the double digit power will come. Coghlan looks very mediocre to me.

I wish you'd posted your actual scoring, as it sounds like a points league where different stats result in different points, but that said, I'd go Andrus. Coghlan offers a very pedestrian blend of marginal power and marginal speed and will seemingly only be useful if he hits for a high average. Andrus has great speed potential and if he were to move up in the Rangers order he will score a lot more runs. I think he'll take another step forward, while I think at absolute best Coghlan matches last year's performance over more AB's. Take Andrus and be happy to have your SS spot filled.

Another vote for Andrus. Speed is there and SS is a good spot to be able to get a young stud for the future.

Not to mention that Arlington is a great hitters park and Landshark(Ugh) favors pitchers.
