It's a strange way for news of a major agreement to break, though Francesa did not use the word "agreement." It's also strange that Francesa would sit on this news for a full day and make the announcement with no enthusiasm.

Gotta believe this hurts Bay's value somewhat significantly as Citi plays pretty large. Good pieces around him though (if they stay healthy) so he may still be able to post decent run and rbi totals.
This deal is pretty acceptable to me as a Mets fan. We didn't give him 5 years, held him to 4 and hopefully he won't tail off drastically. We needed to make a splash for a power bat to get last year's debacle off our minds.
I'm not surprised, the Mets usually get their man of the FA market.

David Wrights SLG dropped from .534 to .447 last year. Nearly 100 points. I dunon if it was Citi or just David Wright
I mean, if Citi lowers Bay’s SLG drastically like Wright’s, and Citi’s giant LF only exploits his defense even more, is he really even a 15 million dollar player for the next four years? 15 million is a awful lot for Bay. I like Bay a lot but I dunno if he is the right player for the Mets and for that type of contract. He is half the play Holliday is, and Matt is looking at a 18 million AAV now. I just don’t understand, why Omar chose to pay Bay over Holliday

I wanted Holliday much, much more than Bay, he's a far better player, willing to pony up for. I wouldn't be surprised to see Holliday go at a discount with the Mets out of the picture. The Mets weren't bidding against themselves anymore either, at least makes it easier to rationalize unlike say, Ollie Perez. Bay's defense is horrendous but making sure Daniel Murphy does not lead the team in home runs again is the top priority here.
