Rank These Guys Please

Postby Fantasy Star » Sat Dec 26, 2009 10:44 am

I am keeping anywhere between 3 to 5 of these players. We lose a pick for each player kept. If I keep 5, my first pick wouldn't be untlil round 6. I'm not sure 5 of these guys are worthy of a top 5 round draft pick. Please rank these players. Here is how I'm ranking them.

League settings are 6x6 with OB% and SLG% instead of avg.

I am considering keeping the ones with asterick but not totally for certain yet.

Miguel Cabrera*
Carlos Lee*
Jason Werth*
Chipper Jones*- he is clearly lost a step but his high OB% is strong in my league, plus, not many quality 3rd baseman out there once keepers are turned in. Is there one solid season left for Chipper?

How many teams, 12 teams?
Do you also use MI & CI?

M.Cabrera seems a no brainer.

Depending on what you think the other teams look like, I could see (if it were my team) only keeping Cabrera and toss the rest back into the draft. I see your argument for Chipper, but if 3B is that weak by dropping down to just 1 keeper, I'm pretty sure you'd be able to pick him back up.

Plus, how many teams would actually only be keeping 1 player like you? You'd get first pick in the draft. Heck, you might even get the first three if everybody keeps at least 3 players which seems likely. But you'd know your leaguemates better than us.

Good luck!

how is the draft order determined?

Let's say you only keep Cabrera, and another team only keeps one player. Who gets first pick?

With info at hand, I'd keep Miggy and Lee and that's it. Everyone else there can be picked back up more than likely if need-be.

U like Lee over Werth? Lee scores very little runs, his OB% is sub par and he doesn't steal many bases. Even his SLG% is lower than Werth's. In a standard scoring format with AVG cat. instead of OB% and SLG% cats, I would lean towards Lee. I'm not so sure with this scoring format.

Draft order is determined on last year's finish.

Two thoughts on this one.
1. I'd rather have Werth, the additional runs, hrs, and SBs will work just fine.
2. If it's between keeping 1 player or 2, and getting that extra draft pick where you can just redraft whichever you planned on keeping why not just cut bait and see if there are any bigger fish that get thrown back.

And where did you finish last year? Are you on the top half or bottom of the draft order?

I'm only keeping Cabrera, and here is why:

None of the rest of the guys listed (even with OB and SLG) would fall in my top 24 players (Werth would be the closest). That said, if you are hell bent on keeping more then one player, I think you need to keep 3, in order to get full value. Chipper's poor second half would scare the hell out of me, and I just don't like Lee enough with OB and SLG to keep him and make Werth close to fair value (top 36 player being what you'd essentially be deciding he is).

If you keep Cabrera and no one else I would imagine at worst you could just re-draft these guys... at best you get upgrades and let others select these guys. My only question is, if you only keep one player, do you get to select players and "catch up so to speak?" Thus if 8 teams keep 4, 2 teams keep 3, 1 team keeps 2 and you keep 1 do you get to select 1 player, then alternate picks with the two keeper owner and so on and so forth until everyone has the same number of players? That is how I understand this working, and if that's the case, Cabrera is the only worthwhile keeper IMO.
