Pick my Keepers

Postby TruValue » Tue Dec 22, 2009 3:51 pm

I know I have more potential keepers than the six major league guys I can keep, I also get to keep three minors guys. Let me know who you keep and what guys you would try to move for draft position upgrade before the season starts up. Big green teeth by the guys I am leaning towards and yellow half smile by the guys I am thinking have value. Let me know where I am wrong

Beltran, Carlos CF NYM
Granderson, Curtis CF NYY
Holliday, Matt LF STL
Kemp, Matt CF LA
Lincecum, Tim SP SF
Sabathia, CC SP NYY

Holliday, Kemp, Lincecum, and Sabathia are no-brainers to be kept. Kemp will likely be a first-round pick in redrafts and with good reason, given his five-cat potential. I'd have some hope that Holliday once again lucks out with solid lineup protection. I don't normally recommend keeping two SP, but they're top front-line starters in a league setup that favors innings-eating pitchers; both Timmy and CC should more than fit the bill there.

Here's where it gets tricky. You probably have to keep Granderson because of his increased perceived value while I think Beltran will bounce back. I wouldn't fault you for keeping Pablo Sandoval instead of Beltran, but if I were you, this would be the six I would feel most comfortable heading into the new year with.

As far as who to trade, Hill and Sandoval carry inflated value whereas Markakis and Youkilis are also good chips to trade for draft picks/upgrades.

I agree with Dodger that Kemp, CC, Linc and Holliday are the no brainers. After that I think I would go with Sandoval and Granderson. Beltran is nice but I think I would let him go. I think he has a better chance for you to redraft him later.

So has Markakis fallen that much in value? HE was right there with most of these guys last year.

I don't know what to think about Markakis. I thought last year was a down year but everything I have read is peripheral stats don't show it as such. I was surprised to see that most people think he is what he is, a guy with some power, little speed and decent RBI and R numbers. Kemp is an easy pick over Markakis. Granderson should give you similar numbers except a few more SB and a little worse AVG. A lot of people think his HR's will go up playing in Yankee Stadium, but I am not so sure. So really it comes down to what you want more of, SB or AVG.
