If they give Holliday that, how much are they going to end up offering Pujols?

I'd say it would have to be close to A-Rod's 10 years/$275M deal.

The Cards can't underpay their best offensive player like that.

Despite everyone saying that "the Cards need to be careful about overpaying Holliday because it will hurt the Pujols contract talks," the A-Rod deal has always been what it would come down to.

It's more concerning to me that they'd be paying 2 players half of their team's budget unless they're going to significantly boost their payroll. They've been in the $90-100M for the last 4 years.

They are just lucky Wainright signed a contract extension already.

I don't think anyone was saying that. The Cards need to be careful with Holliday because they need to keep enough open in the budget for Pujols.

It has been said:

•The loud buzz isn't about Holliday though. It's about Albert Pujols. If you are going to give Holliday $16 million for eight years, what the hell are you going to give Albert Pujols for the extension he wants?

Though i guess more people have been wondering about using 40 to 50% of the payroll on 2 players.
