Trading for Utley instead??...WHIR

Postby Zhangman1 » Tue Dec 15, 2009 10:34 pm

14 team h2h, 6x6 OBP+Hld, 5 Keepers

So i was thinking about trying to make a run at Hanley yesterday (advice3 is still wanted: ;-D viewtopic.php?t=398437) but some made a suggestion of trying to move one of my 3Bs for an upgrade somewhere else. I'm thinking of making a move on Utley. Which would give me a stud IF, plus open up my UTIL spot.

I figure I have 2 options:
1) ARod for Utley straight up :-t
2) Wright + combination of Markakis/Wainwright/Cruz ;-D

Good idea? Go after Hanley instead? Leave a link, promise WHIR

Wright and Cruz and maaaaaaybe Mark in place of Cruz for Hanley....YES Mark didn't do all so well last yr and I think Wright is not going to be hitting the HR's like in the past, like he failed to do last yr. The new field is deaper and he may just not produce like everyone thought he should.

Well, I would rather have Hanley but Utley will come cheaper and would be a nice addition to your team which looks good by the way. ;-D I would actually offer Wright and Wainwright since it looks like he needs pitching as well and Wright I think will have a bounce back year so I am a little weary about offering him up but it should get the job done to get Utley and you really don't really need Wright. Go ahead and try that combo first and then see if he counters.

please help

I don't think it's a move necessary for your team. I'll go ahead and assume you start a corner infielder along with a third baseman....if not....it is worth some consideration.

If you can get Utley I'd do it. He's top 5-10 every year, year in and year out at a weak position. In my eyes, Wainwright is your only pitcher worth keeping, so I wouldn't offer him up. But definitely do the deal if you can give up Markakis or Cruz. This is a keeper league right? and you can only keep 5 of these guys? Can you imagine having Wainwright as a SP keeper and then also keep Pujols, A-Rod, Utley and Tulo.? Wow. That's probably 3 different top 6 picks plus Tulo at SS. That would be a killer keeper list.

I'd prefer A-Rod over Utley while I'd feel comfortable trading Wright and either Markakis/Cruz away. If you're trading away Wainwright on the side, then keeping Markakis as your fifth keeper would be the way to go.
