Amateur Draft Help - Knowledgable, WHIR

Postby gore51 » Tue Dec 15, 2009 6:00 pm

In my sim league Winter Draft, I have the opportunity to draft one of the following 4 players:
Ian Desmond, Starlin Castro, Chris Withrow, and Ryan Westmoreland

My MI situation is weak, but I'm going to address the needs in free agency, right now I have Carlos Triunfel, Sean Rodriguez, Neil Walker, and Danny Valencia as infielders (nobody MLB ready)

My OF situation is strong, I have Nelson Cruz, Chris Dickerson, Ben Francisco, Andrew McCutchen, and Michael Bourn at the MLB level, and Domonic Brown, Nick Weglarz, and Jaff Decker in the minors.

My SP situation is also weak, I have Jason Marquis, Zach Duke, Rick Vandenhurk, Tom Gorzelanny, and JoJo Reyes at the MLB level, and then Martin Perez, Tim Alderson, Jason Knapp, Trevor Reckling, Kasey Kiker, Matt Chico, Jeremy Jeffress, and Mark Rogers in the minors.

My question is, who do I take, and if at all possible, why?

Thanks, I'll definitely help in return if you comment.

I think you have enough prospects that arent ready for the major leagues yet so i would go with Castro. He has been lighting it up and looks to have a chance to make the major league roster out of spring training this year.

please help with my two posts

Thanks for the response. I am leaning towards Castro right now, but I haven't found enough good reads about his skill set thus far. I am somewhat worried about the below average plate discipline and lack of power, but he has great contact rates and is a really good defensive SS. I think I'm putting them in the order of Castro-Westmoreland-Withrow-Desmond, sound right?

Yeah, I think you have them in the right order. Westmoreland is also a stud and you couldn't go wrong with him either but I still think I would go with Starlin. He has a buzz around him this winter and seems to be the real deal.

thanks for your help with mine
