The wife bought it a while ago and held it aside when it shipped and put it under the tree :) Got to open it yesterday!

Got my notification from Amazon as well that it should be coming to my doorstep on 12/31. I so look forward to getting this, it really helps me accelerate my research. I feel like it helps me get a ton of player analysis accomplished well before my league-mates have been able to do so. They scoff at me for researching this early, but ever since I've started reading this book I've done pretty well in my leagues. I know there are lots of other sources to use and Shandler's book isn't the be-all and end-all, but I consider it home base as a reference.

Just picked it up for the first time and haven't put it down. Great read only problem now is that baseball doesn't start for a while getting bored already after two 3rd place games in football.

Would you recommend Forecaster over Prospectus and Bill James?

I was giddy when my copy came in the mail.

Quick question... Are the stat updates on the Baseball HQ web site available to be downloaded in an Excel version?? Last year, I paid to be a member for a few months primary to get the Excel download.

I bought the Forecaster for the first time last year and devling into the sabremetrics really helped me last season... and won a title in one league and finished 4th out of 13 in another league!! ;-D

I can't speak for Propectus, but I'm not a real big fan of Bill James. The Bill James Book has projections, but you can get them online at fangraphs. I'd have to say the Forecaster is the best option.

I'd recommend Forecaster over Bill James handbook, but as the poster before me said, I can't speak to Prospectus (though I've glanced over it in the past, I've never purchased it). Bill James Handbook is a good read though, but not necessarily for the projections. The best part of the Bill James Handbook IMO though is the Park Indices that discuss how a park played in relation to other ballparks in factors such as doubles, triples, BA, HR's and broken down for righties and lefties. Definitely a useful tool for looking at free agents changing addresses IMO.
