Which 5 should I keep...WHIR

Postby albsur2008 » Mon Dec 14, 2009 2:28 pm

I'm in a 8x8, 14-team H2H keeper league. We score:

Hitting - BA BB DT (Doubles and Triples) HR KO R RBI SB
Pitching - ERA HD HRA K L S W WHIP

We can keep five players going into 2010. Here's who I have that I consider keeper level:

Adrian Gonzalez
Ian Stewart
Ryan Zimmerman
Carlos Lee
Alexei Ramirez
Billy Butler
Pablo Sandoval
Josh Beckett
CC Sabathia
Adam Jones

I'm keeping AGon, Zimmerman, and Sandoval for sure. Then I have a problem. I don't know whether I should trade CC for a high pick or keep him. And if I keep him, I don't know whether my last keeper should be Carlos Lee over young guys with huge upsides like Adam Jones and Billy Butler. Which 5 should I keep?

Not a fan of pitching early on so I'd trade CC or beckett for a bat if possible. If ur gonna keep CC, i'd think about keeping beckett while ur at it to ensure u have a solid staff.

I'd have to keep the human doubles machine (50-some) Billy Butler

I think Adrian, Zim and Sandoval are the sure things out of the group. I would also keep CC. The last slot is hard between Beckett, AdJones and CaLee. I would try to deal a few of those to solidify your last keeper. But if you cant make a deal, I would go with CaLee.

Adrian Gonzalez
Ryan Zimmerman
Carlos Lee
Pablo Sandoval
CC Sabathia

I'd say Gonzalez, Zimmerman, Sandoval, and CC are no-brainers while I think Carlos Lee is the most solid of the bunch left over.

I know, this is probably the best plan. But I've got the biggest mancrush on Adam Jones ever. Probably bigger than the one I had for Paul Konerko back in the day. It's gonna be hard to let him go. Get this, heading into the 2009 year, I kept Dan Uggla over Justin Upton because of his spring training struggles thinking I could keep Uggla and just get Upton with my first draft pick but a guy took him in the first round right before me. I haven't gotten over that yet. So now I don't wanna do the same thing with Adam Jones and he stays healthy all year and pulls a .300/30/20 outta the hat.

The big knock on Adam Jones is he induced a lot of groundballs. That early-season power surge was due to him having an unsustainable HR/FB ratio. I think you're likely to get Jones back than Lee in the draft.
