Trade Mauer? WHIR

Postby curl » Thu Dec 10, 2009 3:07 am

I'm in a deep dynasty league (20 teams, 25 keepers) and have recently put out some feelers to see what kind of offers I could get in a Mauer trade.

I've gotten two offers so far, and just am curious to see what other people think.

Trade 1:
Giving: Joe Mauer, Yunel Escobar
Receiving: Alexei Ramirez, Ryan Doumit, and Kevin Slowey

Trade 2:
Giving: Joe Mauer, Pablo Sandoval, Denard Span
Receiving: Brian McCann, Jorge Cantu, Andre Ethier

The first one doesn't feel close; and I try to stay away from imbalanced deals.

The second one feels closer, but I don't know how crazy I am about giving up Sandoval. I could try to cut the Sandoval/Cantu part out, but not sure he'd go for it.

My main motivations for looking to move Mauer now is that I'm just not sure the power will carry over to next year and, consequently, I think he may be at a higher value now than he'll ever be again. I'm also a bit nervous about what kind of impact the new park will have on both his and Span's statistics since the Metrodome had a "hitter's park" reputation and this new stadium is intended to be "neutral."

So, thoughts?

if you can't get someone to give fair value, you just hold on to him. concerns or not, you do not sell low here

What if I were to get Trade 2 to be:

Giving: Joe Mauer, Denard Span
Receiving: Brian McCann, Andre Ethier

Do you think that would be closer to fair value, or would I be asking too much?

You have a good idea in trying to sell high on Mauer, but none of those deals are cclose to worth it for you. If you aren't getting back a top 2 round type of guy, I'd stand pat.

not good enough deals... if it was something like McCann and Kemp or Upton and you were giving Mauer and Span... I could see that but Ethier isn't the same as those other two.

ya bad deals, even the mauer/span for mccann/eithier is BADDDD..... span is a better of'er than you think.... at least I THINK that...

8HR/23SB and a .311 AVG. from a 25 yr old in his first year of good PT?

he's a victorino-lite

easily could go 12HR/30SB and bat .300

plus the downgrade from mauer to mccannn? if you're dealing Mauer, i would NOT want another catcher back.... try and sell him HIGH....

BAD DEALS

I'm pretty sure you can get even more for Mauer, whose price tag is through the roof right now. In fact, some think he's first round worthy. Good time to take advantage of that.

Your getting marginal talent for a fantasy stud. Keep trying.

Even in a deep league like that where the talent is more dispersed (hence getting multiple top notch players is likely more difficult) neither of those packages is appealing to me. Unlike others, I wouldn't necessarily need a "stud," back, and would probably take a different type of package, that said, neither offer is good. If I were you, I'd re-visit the McCann owner, I'd probably take a package of McCann/Ethier and a young upside guy like Nolan Reimold, Andrew McCutchen, Matt LaPorta, Desmond Jennings, Chris Carter, etc. in return. In a league that deep, I'd probably feel better about having quality depth, and two very good players plus a promising player then Mauer.
