Cano for Bay?

Postby C2ThaLo88 » Sun Dec 06, 2009 3:10 pm

12 Teams - 6 Keepers
Head to Head
R, HR, RBI, SB, BB, K, TB, AVG....IP, W, L, CG, SHO, SV, K, ERA, WHIP

I'm looking to trade Cano, and so far have only had one team interested. He wants Cano for Bay or Ethier. I'm leaning towards Bay.

My current Keepers are:
Utley
Sandoval
Haren
Wieters
Lind
Cano

Other possible keepers:
Cain
Jurrjens
Gallardo

It would be easier to give you advice if I could see your roster but Cano for Bay sounds like a good trade for you for sure. Cano is good but Bay is better in my opinion. It kinda depends on who is going to be available at 2B/MI at the draft because you do basically have a top 5 2nd baseman and that is important so I am not sure why you are shopping him around? But if all things excluded, and I just look at it as value for value I would rather have Bay.

I would also consider keeping Gallardo instead of one of your other keepers. He is a stud ace and will only get better. I am not sure who I would drop though from your list already. Probably Wieters as I am not as big on him as others are. Anyway, hope that helps. Good luck and please help when you get a chance.

I prefer Either over bay personally since he is younger and Bay is an unsure thing right now. If he resigns with Boston you then it is a toss up for you. But either of them is an upgrade from cano, especially since you have utley.

With Utley, Cano can easily be dealt for a stud OF in Bay. ;-D

Corey Hart (Mil - OF)
Adam Lind (Tor - OF)
Casey McGehee (Mil - 2B,3B)
Carlos Peña (TB - 1B)
Álex Ríos (CWS - OF)
Pablo Sandoval (SF - C,1B,3B)
Chase Utley (Phi - 2B)
Matt Wieters (Bal - C)
Michael Young (Tex - 3B,SS)

Matt Cain (SF - SP)
Yovani Gallardo (Mil - SP)
Dan Haren (Ari - SP)

I'd pull the trigger on Cano for Bay. With Utley in the fold, and less interest in Cano then I'd expect, I'd take Bay. That said, if they are willing to offer Bay, I'd try and squeeze a bit more. Not sure who selects where in the re-draft portion of the league, but if he has a higher 1st round pick, I'd try and swap selections (your first for theirs). If you select higher in the 1st round, do a pick swap of 2nd rounders. I am always surprised by how often I'm able to get a minor deal sweetening by swapping selections. Usually it's not enough to turn an owner off from an offer, especially if it's only a few draft slots.

I think you just need to wait. It is only early December and Winter Meetings just started. A lot of owners take a break from baseball and might not be ready to start dealing before the new year. I know that is generally the time I start taking a look at my teams and making deals. I don't think this is a bad deal but I would look at getting someone a little younger than Bay. I would also suggest trying to a 2-1 if there is a team with some weak keepers. I agree that you should try and keep Gallardo and if you can move Cano and Pablo for a Justin Upton or Tulowitzki then it will make your team that much stronger.

Ideally I'd like to do a 2 for 1, but we have a rule in place that keeper trades have to be 1 for 1 to keep teams from getting unbalanced. I think you're right about waiting. It's real early, pitchers and catchers haven't even reported yet! I'm just anxious. Thanks for the input as always.

I like the rule. There is a similar one in place in the 12 team keeper league I'm in. One thing I've done in the past is float around my last keeper being available (in the event I wanted to deal one). That way if an owner is more interested in say, Yovani Gallardo then Robinson Cano, you can declare Gallardo a keeper and deal him to that owner. Probably not a bad idea waiting to make a deal, but I would do everything in my power to go into next season with a group of keepers that don't include both Utley and Cano. Good luck!
