I have been offered Nelson Cruz, John Lackey and Drew Stubbs for my Kendry Morales, Pedro Alvarez and 2nd round pick in the expansion draft(players left on waivers)
What do you think? Is this worth it for me? I could use some speed with stubs and Cruz and really wouldnt be losing that much power and gaining a solid arm. This is close in my opinion. Let me know your thoughts. Thanks.

I have always been for getting the guys who are going to help me win this year. That being the case I would go for it. Lackey will go to a contender, Cruz hits in a bandbox and Stubbs isn't to shabby. Kendry is a good bat, but only at 1B, you will have to wait on Alvarez. All being said and done, Alvarez is the best player probably in this deal in the long run. If you think you can win by making the deal do it, if you don't think you can then I would hold on to Alvarez.
pretty sure in a couple years you'd be regretting this, if not sooner.I don't think any of the guys you'll be getting will ever be top 50 players, and both you are losing could be. I just never do these kinda deals unless I get a really specific need filled or something; & I just don't think I'd pull the trigger here
Now he wants my first round minor league pick in this deal and said for me to pick a player from his roster that will get this done.
So, it would be Kendry, Pedro, first round pick for Lackey, Cruz, and ____. Here is his team. Who would be fair to ask for if I were to do this deal? I was thinking about asking for Carlos Lee or Carlos Pena or someone like that. What do you guys think?
His Team: Minors: D. Brown (Phi - OF) 02. F. Freeman (Atl - 1B) 03. C. Crosby (Det - SP)
Roster ----- C: M. Wieters (Bal - C) 1B: C. Pena (TB - 1B) 2B: I. Kinsler (Tex - 2B) 3B: D. Wright (NYM - 3B) SS: A. Escobar (Mil - SS) OF: J. Bay (Bos - OF) OF: C. Lee (Hou - OF) OF: J. Upton (Ari - OF) Util: N. Cruz (Tex - OF) Util: N. McLouth (Atl - OF) Bench: D. Stubbs (Cin - OF) Bench: L. Milledge (Pit - OF) Bench: J. Bartlett (TB - SS) Bench: J. Borbon (Tex - OF) Bench: M. Cuddyer (Min - OF,1B)
SP: J. Verlander (Det - SP) SP: J. Lackey (LAA - SP) RP: B. Wilson (SF - RP) RP: F. Francisco (Tex - RP) P: C. Billingsley (LAD - SP) P: S. Kazmir (LAA - SP) P: A. Burnett (NYY - SP) Bench: D. Holland (Tex - SP) Bench: B. Anderson (Oak - SP) Bench: P. Hughes (NYY - RP,SP)
I would pass on this deal. Consider me sold on Alvarez, and I'd be shocked if he isn't up for at least half of next season. I understand the Pirates will want to wait to promote him so they don't start the arbitration clock, but I think he's going to hit well enough to force his way onto the big league team. I would argue that if you do the deal you could end up looking back at the end of the year at having dealt the two most desirable keepers going into 2011. My opinion might slightly sway depending on where Lackey ends up (if he were to end up in the NL his value takes a pretty steep uptick). That said, even if he ends up in the most ideal situation, I would still rather keep what you have, as I think it's best long term, and I don't think you get a big enough upgrade short term as I don't think Alvarez is far off.
Lackey, Cruz, Carlos Lee for Morales, Alvarez, my first and second round minor league picks
Should I still stay put? It is tempting because Lackey is a lock for 14-15 wins and a sub 4.00 ERA if past predicts future and I get two top notch OF with power that I need. I know Alvarez is the key piece here but I want to win this year and I am not sure if he will be up early enough to really help me. He is a stud and should play full time on the Pirates but who knows when? I am still leaning towards no but thought I would get a few more opinions on this new offer first.

I'm still passing. Lee should be quite good next year, but his best days are almost certainly behind him. Lackey is also very good, but he's not dominant... and he's a pitcher. Nelson Cruz had a nice year, but as I've posted in another thread, I don't care for the usage by the Rangers last year, and that would be a concern of mine going forward (especially with a potentially healthy Josh Hamilton, an emerging Julio Borbon, David Murphy, and Justin Smoak close to ready). I also think you are vastly underestimating how good Kendry Morales can be going forward. He had a very good this year, and he has room for growth. Toss in the fact you would be dealing Alvarez (who I've already once stated I believe in) plus your top two minor league picks and that's mortgaging a lot of future (and present) talent for some very good, but still underwhelming pieces.
