I would not do the deal. The comparisons to Delmon Young in terms of guys who have been prospect busts are way off base. Delmon was a "5 tool player," who was raw and never at any point displayed the strike zone command that Heyward has. His career BB:K is a thing of beauty for a guy his age, and given that he also has the "tools," we are talking about a guy who will almost certainly be a top notch fantasy OF. He'll be entering the season at the age of 20, and will have a legit shot at being in the Majors before the ASB next year. Guys with his skillset, strike zone command, and age are a pretty safe bet to be big hits. I don't expect monster contributions year one, but I think he'll hit the ground running and be at least a mild contributor out of the gate. Bill James projections are exciting for the young man (though he is typically optimistic with his projections IMO). He has hitting .303 with 17 HR's 86 runs and 78 RBI's in 601 plate appearances. I would say it's unlikely he sees that many plate appearances, but if he were to see 400-450 I wouldn't be shocked.
I also think you are short selling some of the young guys you have in your minors as being contributors in the short term. I'd be more inclined to try and deal for a higher volume of pitchers, as they are so volatile and I don't trust any starter to stay healthy. I'm also inclined to believe that C.C. will only be putting a band aid (albeit a big one) on your pitching issues. You are going to need Tillman and others to start fullfilling their promise even with C.C. to make a leap in pitching. Hence another reason to try and deal for pitching volume and avoid dealing Heyward. I'm personally staying away, I just don't think C.C. is worth Heyward.
