Hi everyone. Just done my first ever draft, picking 9th, and here it is:

12-team H-2-H 5x5 scoring:

C - J. Varitek (draft 9)
1B - M. Sweeney (12)
2B - J. Kent (3)
3B - M. Teixeira (7)
SS - A. Berroa (11)
OF - C. Beltran (1)
OF - J. Pierre (5)
OF - S. Podesdnik (10)
Util - C. Wilson (20) - C,1B,RF
Bn - J. Crede (13) - 3B
Bn - C. Patterson (15) - OF

SP - C. Schilling (2)
SP - M. Mulder (6)
RP - M. Rivera (4)
RP - J. Santana (8)
P - D. Riske (13)
P - J. Washburn (16)
P - B. Donnelly (17)
Bn - F. Cordero (18)
Bn - S. Estes (19)
Bn - A. Eaton (21)

Please give me your opinion. Am I top heavy with pitchers, or is it about right?
Also, how were my drafts? Too early? About right? Any steals?
And do you think I should drop anyone?

Undrafted include:

Carl Crawford
Alex Sanchez
Jody Gerrutt
Jay Gibbons

Dan Kolb
Matt Herges
J. Affeldt

Thankyou! :-D

Crawford went undrafted???????? :-o

I'd pick him up and trade Pierre for a good slugger - you have plenty of speed in that lineup.

Craig Wilson is a good catching option, but I wouldn't start him as a Util player over the likes of Patterson.

I like Gibbons to breakout this year, as long as he doesn't go to LA.

Your pitching is very nice, but Shawn Estes? never get a rockies pitcher, unless he's closing.

Kolb is a good closer on a bad team, though with Wickman's injury, you have 3 closers, which sounds right. I'd still consider picking up Kolb over Donnelly, since holds aren't a category.

A lot of people around here really like Affeldt to have a good year if he can get over the blister problems. I'd pick him up over Estes.

Overall, nice team ;-D

Thanks for the advice, jb!
So,to sum up, I should:

Drop Donnelly and Estes & pick up Kolb & Affeldt.

Pick up Crawford (who should I drop to get a gap?)

Trade Pierre for a slugger.

That's what I'd do, I'd probably drop Wilson - his totals are good only because of his catcher eligibility, but you already have Varitek, who's much better.

I'd also watch what happens with Gibbons - if the LA rumours are untrue, he could have a great season.

Good luck

Please get Estes off your team :). You don't really have any power so trade some of your speed for it.

Thanks for the comments so far. Leaving aside the obvious mistake of taking Estes and Donnelly (although Donnelly was a slip of the mouse! :-B ), how were my drafts generally?

Did I draft anyone too early, or pick up any steals?
