Keeper Trade Question (Tex for Kemp?)

Postby XTSilver » Wed Dec 02, 2009 12:26 pm

I'm in a standard 5x5 H2H keeper league. We keep 4 and have a rookie team.

I kept Utley, Tex, Wright, and Rollins last year and am leaning towards keeping them all again this year. The only other guy I'm considering is Zimmerman.

However, I have Billy Butler on my rookie team and have to call him up this year (not as a keeper just as a last round draft pick) or else I lose him.

I'm thinking about trading Tex for Matt Kemp and just having Butler as my starting 1b.

Would this improve my team?

Keep Teix here. Kemp is great but Teix is a first rounder and Kemp is a second round pick most likely. I would stay put if I were you.

please help

I like Kemp. Plus you can't lose Butler. I also le Zimm over Rollins.

I like the idea of flipping one of your 1Bs, but I wonder what you would get for Butler. I'd probably shop him before agreeing to the trade for Kemp. I like Kemp in a 5x5 H2H league. 20-25 HRs with 30-35 SBs. Hard to argue with that, even if its 35HR, 100R, and 120RBI. 20HR/30SB from your SS slot is pretty ideal as well, even if it means passing on 30HR, 100R, 100RBI from 3B.

Thanks for the help on mine!
Good luck, feel free to PM me

I like Zimm ahead of Rollins.

I also like Tex more than Kemp, but if you were to keep Zimm you would have 2 1B (with Butler) and 2 3B, so if you don't have any extra Util or CI spots you could be in a bind. If you have no extra spots, I could see myself doing the deal for Kemp.

I definitely like Kemp over Tex. I would do so in a redraft next spring, and the age suggests that's a long term shift. If CF is separated out from generic OF slots, this treads into "no brainer" status.

With Kemp, you'd have a worthy keeper in a format this shallow, favoring having elite, for sure.

For me, I roll those dice on Rollins. I would want to feel out something like Zimm/Rollins for Hanley first, but I'm a huge proponent of shoring up SS before UTIL. As good as Zimm's production is, at UTIL, it doesn't look terrible irreplaceable. Dropping from Rollins to a redrafted SS could be devastating, however.

Thanks guys for the help.

We do have a Util spot and we also start LF, CF, RF.

I didn't want to keep Zimm for the very reason Johnny Tuttle said. It seems much easier to replace Zimm's numbers at Util than Rollins at SS.

I suppose I could look at shopping a different 2 for 1 keeper deal. I doubt I'd pull off Rollins/Zimm for Hanley though.

Any other thoughts?

In CF league, please go get your Kemp now. We'll wait.

.....

Seriously, go get him. I offered Fowler/LaPorta/Bum for him and got declined in a CF dynasty.

Before I got the chance to formally offer the trade for Kemp I got an email from another owner in my league with Braun as a definite keeper and then a bunch of marginal keepers (Berkman, Jeter, Morales, Hamilton, Zobrist.) He said he would be willing to part with Braun for Tex and 2 of Wright, Zimm, and Haren (who I didnt mention I also have).

Since I wasn't going to keep Zimm or Haren anyways, I figure Braun for Tex/Zimm/Haren works for me. Figure Braun is a better keeper than Kemp right?

Tex/Zimm/Haren for Braun is a definite winner, but I would still take Kemp over Braun. CF has a lot of nice talent, but you'd have the best.
