I am in a 12 team 5x5 league. We are only keeping 5 players this year but next year we will up that to 15. Below is the list of players I can keep with their salary from last year. Every year that you keep a player $5 is added to their cost so next year a $1 player will cost me $6.
Lance Berkman $19 Brian Roberts $23 David Wright $38 Carlos Gonzalez $1 Colby Rasmus $1 Travis Snider $1
CC Sabathia $26 Trevor Cahill $1 Derek Holland $1 Rick Porecello $1 Ricky Romero $1 Brandon Webb $15
I also could trade for Pujols ($57), Braun ($42), Hill ($12), Lincecum ($41) or Longoria ($44). I would be dealing Wright or Roberts for some combination of these guys.
I am thinking that my best bet is to keep a combination of my $1 guys and hope they continue their progress. Webb could be a steal at $20 for next year but it is a big gamble that he will be his old self. The only guy I like to deal for is Hill at $17 I think that is a good price. So I was thinking Hill, Gonzalez, Porcello, Snider and Holland.
Thoughts?
...and as always WHIR.

Wright will be tough to move at that price; I think Rasmus could be worth your while.Agreed, Hill is the only 1 of those I'd be interested in.CC seems reasonably priced too
There was on team that contacted me about Wright but he is the team that has Lincecum and Longoria. The other guy wants Roberts and is willing to do Roberts for Braun and Hill.

First thing first if I can trade Brian Roberts and Get Ryan Braun and Aaron Hill for him I would do it in a heart beat.
As for who I would keep
David Wright - He would be kind pricey, but the guy is a stud. Carlos Gonzalez - He is only gonna get better Rick Porcello - He is only gonna get better Brian Roberts - He is a stud at a thin position CC Sabathia - He is an ace that every staff needs
I would deal Roberts for Hill and Braun in a second!
If you dont, I would keep:
Wright(too good to just let go) Porcello(should be a cheap source of wins) Sabathia(again, too good to let go) Roberts(great source of runs, avg, speed) Snider(the ceiling is high for this guy)
if we're talking about a 260$ auction... I don't think you could trade for any of those players except Hill.
If your league is going to require a full 15 are kept next year, I'd actually advocate not keeping anyone over 10 or 15$ and cutting everyone loose. Even if your team sucks this year b/c ppl are keeping some of the Pujols and Lincecums for 2010... they won't be able to afford to continue keeping them. So when they get cut loose, you want some cheaper keepers on your roster so you can bid aggressively for those players.
I'd look to deal Wright for Hill and maybe another cheap keeper, same with Roberts... force these guys into a situation where they're using more than 20% of their auction money on a player and you're going to have a well balanced team.
I said in another thread that Pujols at 42$ in an auction league was a good price b/c of the inflation inherent in keeper leagues... but $57+5 is too high for a mixed league and I'm pretty comfortable saying the same thing about Braun (42+5), Lincecum (41+5) or Longoria (44+5).

This was my thinking as well at the end of the season but then recently started wondering if it was the right choice. I am not sure how many of the big name guys will be kept either. I am betting that Pujols and such will be back in the draft and a lot of the under $20 players will still be there. I figured my best strategy would be going into the draft with as much money as I could to build a quality team. Any other opinions out there?

I'm a big fan of Feliz as an MLB prospect... I'm not positive he's a fantasy SP though. I want to think he is but I'm not sold on the Rangers giving him that chance. I think they'll be tempted into turning him into their own early career KRod/Marmol reliever. For a dollar though, I'd snag him up and gamble. Just make sure you give up the right player for him and leave your opponent with the tough contract.
