I don't know what type of talent is likely to be available in your free agent draft but this deal looks fairly solid for you for the near future as Uggla solves a major issue for you at MI and Cantu will help your lineup as a CI. Posada will be a nice stopgap that can be moved later when Posey takes over for you long term at catcher. I don't see Span as a burner and you should be able to find another outfielder with speed if you choose to flip Uggla or Cantu down the road. It does not look like you will seriously miss Cain as you should have Bumgarner on your minor league roster who should be up at some point in mid-2010 to stay. It's close and I could see making an arguement aganist this deal but I think it should help you push closer to the top in 2010 and does not cost you too much. Good luck!

I also like this, depending on your dropper. Cain's a good player, but Uggla's very useful. Cantu doesn't suck, and Span's nothing to grab hold off.
Cain's an injury risk, IMHO, and this level of help for this and next year in the person of Uggla is nice. Posada might not last the year, but he'll cover 'til Posey comes and you might sell Posada for something or anything.
Please try to get an extra prospect pick or a higher one than a 2nd rounder. Cain's perceived value should be a little better than this. Don't push too hard, though; he just needs this more than you do.
