Hall of Fame 2010

Postby bigken117 » Fri Nov 27, 2009 5:51 pm

which of these first time eligible players deserves induction?

Roberto Alomar - 12 time All-Star, 10 time Gold Glove, .300 BA, 210 HR, 474 SB, .814 OPS
Edgar Martinez - 2 batting titles, .309 BA, 7 time All Star, .933 OPS, 75% played as DH
Barry Larkin - 12 time All Star, 9 time Silver Slugger, 3 time Gold Glove, 1995 NL MVP, .295 BA, .815 OPS
Fred McGriff - 493 career HR, 1550 RBI, .886 OPS, 2 time HR champ, 5 time All-Star

I hope and think Alomar breezes in, he was my favorite player as a kid.
The others all have good Hall Of Fame Monitor and Hall Of Fame standards scores on baseball reference, but I don't see them making it.

Alomar should get in, IMO. I would also think that Larkin gets in. He was one of the elite SS's of his era. A pure power/speed force. He played good defense as well. He was a complete player. If either of these two don't make it on on their 1st ballot, they'll be in the 2nd year.

Edgar and Crime Dog are just not quite HOF material.

I also believe Larkin had the 1st 30/30 season for a SS ever as well as winning a championship with the Reds in 1990. i also can't remember any bad PR coming from him like I with Alomar (spitting).

Alomar and Larkin along with McGwire should be easy additions to the HOF in 2010.

It's sad that Tim Raines is an after thought for the 3rd year in a row. He was a poor man's Rickey Henderson and arguably the 2nd best lead-off hitter of all-time. His career is very comparable to first ballot HOFer Lou Brock.

I hope Alomar or Larkin makes first ballot, but I have an ominous feeling that neither will make it in.

There is no way McGwire goes from 22% to 75% in one year.

Andre Dawson is trending toward election though...
