To me, Lackey is a complimentary piece, not a #1. He's getting a huge contract here and I can't help but think that this contract is going to look really bad before its all done. I hope I'm wrong, but I doubt I am.
Cameron is a great defender and should be able to hit 25 HR and steal a decent amount of bags. For the price, he's a decent pick-up and it prevents them from overspending on Bay or Holliday. Hopefully there is another move or two left to be made, but right now I'm rather nonplussed about the whole thing.
Aw come on! What's wrong with a great rivalry? That's what makes baseball so great. Aren't you the Dodgers fan? Man if they were still in Brooklyn all we'd be hearing about is Bums/Giants/Yankees etc. Cubs/Cards, Mets/Braves/Phillies... keep it coming.
On another note I just snuck a peak at my Xmas presents. It appears I'm getting Torre's new book and Slouching Toward Fargo. Any of you guys read these?

The playing field has never been fair in baseball but in a way it kind of makes things more interesting. How can you not appreciate what the A's did in the early 00's and what the Angels or Phillies have been doing recently? I've often wondered about Yankees fans. I once read an article saying there were 3 types of Yankee fans - those brought up that way, those that only care about winning, and those that can't help feeling a little guilty when they take it all. And it must have been great being a BoSox fan in 04 even though they did shell out a fair amount of money to do it. As a Pirates fan I don't have much recent experience of money or winning. Oh to have a time machine and go back to '79 or even better '60. Go Bucs Go!
