I don't think anyone got ahead of themselves as much as it was an issue hammering out an extension in 24 hours. It was made very clear in the media that the extension had to be agreed upon and I guess we all just expected it to happen since the AGon to Boston rumors have been going on for over a year now. Apparently it's not completely dead yet, but who knows..

I can't even begin to say how frustrating this is as a fan of the team. I don't know that there's another team out there that flirts with players more than the Sox do...

I can't imagine Werths worth in the last 2 years of the contract, but I still think it was a good move for Washington and Werth. Washington gets a player that should have just as much overall production from Werth as they did from Dunn, with very good defense thrown in, and Werth gets to increase his offensive chances by moving out of the 5 hole in Philly, and into the 3 or 4 hole in Washington. Glad I spent the $17. ;-D
