Note: Sadly, our rules from last year are gone along with the forum itself. So, starting "from scratch" off another league (KDML). We may have to edit this a bit before we get started, which is fine.

Scoring

The Baseball Roto Auction League (BRAL) is a rotisserie league.

Hitting categories: BA, HR, Runs, RBI, Steals
Pitching categories: Wins, ERA, Whip, SO, Saves

MAX and MIN

Min IP 900
Max IP 1400

Rosters

Starting Positions: C, 1b, 2b, 3b, SS, UT, 3 OF, 6 pitchers
Bench: 8 players of any position
DL: We will use Yahoo designation.

Position Eligibility: Using Yahoo standards for position eligibility.

Auction

Player Pool: all players AL and NL are eligible to be purchased at auction, minor leaguers and prospects as well. Please note that a player must be in the Yahoo database at the start of the season to be drafted on your team. If you win an auction for a player (i.e., a minor league player that you assumed would be in the database), but they are not in the Yahoo data base at the start of the season, you will not have "dibs" on said player.

Cap: $260 cap.

Initial bid: $1

Bid increments: min increment of $1 no max. increment.

Process: By every Monday and Thursday every owner will start a thread with a player. The initial thread will list the player, the team, the position eligibility and the bid. The bid must be $1, you cannot start at any other bid.

Please follow this example:

Vernon Wells, Toronto Blue Jays, OF, $1

Bidding starts at 12:00 pm ET (noon) every Monday and Thursday. So you must have your player submitted (your thread started) before that time. If you do not have your player queued up by then, I will do it for you. If you cannot queue your player in time please PM your selection to another owner. ImportantBidding starts at 12:00pm ET every Monday and Thursday, BUTthreads may be started 24 hours in advance (i.e., 12:00 noon on Sunday and Wednesday). They may not be created earlier than 24 hours (this becomes very important later in the auction.)

Disputes on when players are submitted or who submitted players first (or, illegally) are easily settled using forum timestamps.

Bidding proceeds in $1 or greater increments. When there has been no new bids on a player for a 24 hour period, bidding is halted on that player and he is sold. I will then lock that thread. Please notify me in the Chat Thread if I have overlooked a player.

Bidding will start on 11/30/09 at noon EST. If necessary, bidding may be sped up to three nominations / week at the end of the draft.

11/29/09: Owners may only bid on any player if: (a) there is enough room on the owner's roster for another player, and (b) the dollar amount of said bid, plus the owner's total paid salary, plus the sum of all active bids does not exceed $260. If either (a) or (b) are not true, the owner may not bid. In other words, you may not have many active bids on many players -- even if you do not intend to win those players -- if the bids exceed your salary limit.

End bidding:

If your roster is full (or would be full if you included active bids where you are winning) you are not allowed to nominate players for bidding. Only those owners with empty roster spots are allowed to nominate players.

Transactions

This is a daily transaction yahoo league.

All Trades must be approved by the commissioners (Boomer, Bwanna). All trades will be approved unless it involves collusion or abject stupidity and will affect the league results. You may not trade salary. Once a player is traded he cannot be traded back to the same team for a period of 12 months. (11/13/10)

Trades during the draft are allowed. During this time, the players salaries are traded with them--and only during this time (trades during the season are revenue neutral as there is no in-season budget). No cash is allowed to be traded at any time.

11/29/09: After the draft is completed, salary money loses meaning. Players may be traded without reference to dollar amount. You do not have to maintain a $260 cap throughout the season, only through the draft.

Trading Deadline: Yahoo default

Undroppable Players: We will use the Yahoo list of undroppable players.

Waivers and free agents

There is no limit on the number adds or drops that you can make.

Free agents may be picked up at any time. All players not purchased at auction are immediately placed on waivers, if not picked up off of waivers, these players are put into the free agent pool.

Waivers: we will use the Yahoo waiver system.

Waiver rank: Random before season.

Sportsmanship

Basic sportsmanship expected at all times of course.

I think we should rename this clause the "Strasburg Rule" :-b

On the same note, if that happens... do you open up a spot on your roster (pre-yahoo) and get your bid ($) back to use on another player (for which I am certain you can nominate due to the circumstance)?

We should also have a rule that you can't bid on a player that doesn't fit into your roster if you win them. If I have a full bench and all my pitchers spots are filled I can't bid up Bwanna on a pitcher I forgot about.
Also something about not having more bids out than you have money left. Never fails someone will have $320 in bids out in the first day or two. Although they won't win them all, it really isn't fair to allow someone to up the bids when they can't actually afford them. I hope that made sense.

This is in there already:

If your roster is full (or would be full if you included active bids where you are winning) you are not allowed to nominate players for bidding. Only those owners with empty roster spots are allowed to nominate players.

Does that cover what you mean?

Kinda...it only says nominate not bid on. I know it's almost the same, but if guys haven't done auctions before it gets out of hand real quick.

No, good call. I'll supplement it. (see above)
