They said they weren't willing to trade Beckham and it makes no sense for them
That's a great point, and one that is often forgotten. Most of the time, we just see Adrian as an upgrade from Beckham offensively. But if trading Beckham means they have to start a guy hitting .220 and 1 HR at 2B, what's the point?
As a White Sox fan, I'd love to see Adrian end up on the South Side. I'd even give up Hudson and Mitchell to get him. But I say hands off Beckham and Flowers. We've taken on enough salary anyway. But if we can get some much needed power and a left-handed bat in the form of a stud like that without losing Beckham--go at it.
Is pushing for President Obama to pass a law requiring all citizens to be Chicago White Sox fans and make October 1st "White Sox Day" where we all dress as our favorite player. It maybe socialist, but I don't care.
Beckham, Flowers and Hudson would be a good start for Adrians services. It fills three holes in San Diego's lineup. The Friars can send back Eckstein in the deal to cover 2B (he excels in the post season don't ya know). The total impact to the White Sox is about 6-7 million a year, for two years, something very doable for the Sox.
If the Sox prefer, they could send one year of Konerko to Florida, who needs a first baseman, for Uggla. But, if they can't find a home for Konerko, this deal doesn't happen this year.
If they had the same service time left this would be a an easy trade, Adrian is a better hitter than Beckham likely ever will be and he is a good defensive 1B as well.. But given their ages and arbitration values etc I just don't see this happening.
If I'm the Padres I wouldn't do a deal with the White Sox unless Beckham was the center piece. That said, I am curious if the White Sox would try and include Alexei Ramirez instead, and what his value is on the trade market? Perhaps open up SS for Beckham. I haven't heard anything rumored, just curious if Alexei, Hudson, Flowers and maybe another prospect would be something both teams would visit?
