and has this contract
Curtis Granderson
5 years/$30.25M (2008-13), plus 2014 club option
signed extension with Detroit 2/4/08 08:$1M, 09:$3.5M, 10:$5.5M, 11:$8.25M, 12:$10M, 13:$13M club option ($2M buyout) 2013 option increases to:
$15M if MVP (1st - 5th) in 2011 or 2012
$14M if All Star in 2011 or 2012
$13.5M if All Star selection in 2011 or 2012
award bonuses: $25,000 each for All Star, Gold Glove; $50,000 for Silver Slugger; $75,000 for LCS MVP; $0.1M for MVP, WS MVP
hey buddy this is 2009. A 5.5 (or even 8.25 or 10) million dollar contract for someone with his skills is not that bad, and for the numbers he has, and is likely to put up is probably a little low.
Also what does 13.5 million if all star selection and 14 million if all star supposed to mean?
And, would you be willing to pay an extra $375,000 to a player who went to an all star game, won both the gold glove and silver slugger awards and was the MVP of the LCS, WS and SEASON? You talk about the bonuses like they are a risk for a team.
This post is a joke
Granderson is one of my favorite Tigers, but if you can get something of value for him i think you have to consider taking it. Cabrera is due to make $20M+ in 2010 and beyond...Verlander is going to be commanding that kind of cash soon too.
i just dont see them being a strong contender in 2010 because they arent going to spend the money on a FA 2B, Closer and 8th inning guy and they dont have any viable replacements, not to mention Mags and Guillen are another year older, so why not get younger, clear your bad contracts and then make a run at some top FA's in a few years
i'm not saying dump him for scrubs, but i just dont see a guy who cant hit LHP, K's a ton and doesnt walk due to make 10M+ being untouchable

To say nothing of the fact that he'd be somewhere else besides Petco for half his games...
45-50 Hr?
110 R 130 RBI
That batting average would climb too.
His home and away splits are pretty telling:
Petco: 12 Hr .244 Ba .413 OBP .446 Slg% Away: 28 Hr .306 Ba .402 Obp .643 Slg%

So Curtis Granderson is not worth $8.5M per year over the next three seasons (if the buyout is exercised after 2012)? Really?
it's not the worst contract in the world, but if he cant improve vs LHP it's a lot for a platoon player...and i'm not saying the should trade him, but if they can get a great package then they should consider it
MLB.com has learned that the Blue Jays may allow another team a window to negotiate a contract extension with Roy Halladay should a trade be consummated.
The reasoning behind a window being granted lies with the fact that the Blue Jays would likely receive a better package for Halladay if a contract extension could be signed. Former general manager J.P. Ricciardi would not grant such an extension. It's becoming more and more obvious that new GM Alex Anthopoulos has a far better handle on how to go about trading a superstar. Source: MLB.com
Anyone see him getting dealt before the start of the season?
