Pitching Trade Help

Postby gore51 » Thu Oct 29, 2009 10:07 pm

In my 30 team simulation league, I've been offered a trade that I am mulling over.

The offer is as follows:

I give up:
Roy Oswalt (signed for 1 year at 3.034 million [great price])
Joe Blanton (signed for 2 years at 5 million [decent price])

I receive:
Wandy Rodriguez (signed for 4 years at a price probably around 6 million)

Obviously, for 1 year this is a terrible deal for me, but my team isn't going to win the division or even wild card, so is Wandy a good guy for me to pursue?

The rest of my pitching is as follows:
Jason Marquis
Zach Duke
Tom Gorzelanny
Mitch Talbot
Rick Vandenhurk
Matt Chico and a bunch of prospects as shown here: viewtopic.php?t=397932

As always, I will definitely help you out in return if you post a link.

If you are playing for the future this deal seems fine to me. Oswalt didn't get to 200 innings & the ERA took a big jump. Get what you can for him now, he could still have some good years left in him (or 1) but there is so much more uncertainty with a back injury

Yes, this is true. The only thing I'm worried about is how strong of a pitcher Wandy is. He looks really strong at times, and really bad others. Does he have the potential to be a #1 SP?

I think he's already better than Oswalt and Blanton. He's a #1 for most teams and a solid #2 for the rest.
