Offseason Dynasty Extensions

Postby converge241 » Sat Oct 24, 2009 5:10 pm

Hey there - 12 team dynasty league standard 5x5 roto

Can extend two of these (added in 2009) players from major league roster for 2 more years:
Homer Bailey
Pablo Sandoval
Edwin Jackson
Andrew Bailey
Shin Soo Choo
Fernando Rodney
- for the longest time was leaning Sandoval and Edwin but, as you can see from my team below, I have no closers. I am a big proponent of cheap closers during the season and had more in the fold than Bailey and Rodney but when I couldnt move up or down where I was in saves started trading the others away. While I am confident in grabbing more saves in the draft/wire I am now debating extending Bailey just to have one in the fold. Rodney would get consideration but who knows what team/role he will be on/have.

Can sign 3 of these minor leaguers to 2 year extensions as well (1st year with a minor league roster so there are no exisiting minor leaguers)
Jake Arrieta
Jeremy Helickson
Timothy Alderson
Wade Davis
Kyle Drabek
- Wade Davis is a lock so really the question is extend two

Rest of team signed up: (years remaining)
Brian McCann (4)
Joey Votto (4)
Chase Utley (4)
Evan Longoria (4)
Elvis Andrus (5)
Vladimir Guerrero (1)
Raul Ibanez (2)
Ichiro Suzuki (2)
Michael Young (1)

Cliff Lee (2)
Daisuke Matsuzaka (1)
Ricky Nolasco (2)
Justin Verlander (4)
Gil Meche (2)
Matt Garza (2)
Joba Chamberlain (2)

We will have a draft at some point in February to fill out the rest of the teams for 2010. Deadline to extend is 10/30.

Anyway thoughts/input appreciated, leave a link for your offseason questions as well thx!

Sandoval, for sure. I'd keep Bailey over Jackson but I'd also consider Choo, since saves aren't hard to come by in a 12 team mixed league. Your pitching prospects are relatively equal so I'd keep Drabek and Alderson, just because they won't have to pitch in the AL East.

I agree with the above except I would take Choo over Bailey as saves are easy to come by and closers are so volatile.

the only problem I see with Choo is the military service thing coming up; if they decide to waive or postpone that he's the right choice. Not exactly sure when that decision is due, but he's near the age right now; a very good chance you don't get 2 years from him
