Keep Oswalt, Hamels, or Hawkins?

Postby BeSquare » Thu Oct 22, 2009 12:49 pm

10 team 5x5 NL only keeper league ($260 cap). Looking at retaining either Oswalt at $20 or Hamels at $27. Would either one be a good choice? Also considering LaTroy Hawkins at $10 as a back-up plan for Valverde whom I am definitely retaining. Any words of wisdom would be appreciated :*)
A bad three minutes at the auction can cost you three months worth of research!

Right now I'd pass on all three. Oswalt and Hamels aren't bad but they don't seem to be a value at that price either.
Hawkins is a FA so who knows where he is going to sign. If he signs with an NL team as a closer he is a bargain, otherwise he isn't worth it.

I wouldn't want any of those pitchers at those prices.

even if Hawkins resigned w Hous $10 seems too steep
either SP could go for that much next year again but neither is really a must hold at those prices either. I really think Hamels could earn that lofty salary next season but that doesn't mean he should be kept at that price. If there is some sort of years attached that restarts I'd be willing to try to redraft him next year; maybe even a couple dollars cheaper

Hamels has talent, and is still at a great age. He is there if you can afford it?

Hamels, or another choice if you have it. Other keeper potentials and other keepers plase (roster)..
