Trade A-Rod for Miggy and Broxton?

Postby KiDLiQuiD » Mon Oct 19, 2009 11:24 pm

With A-Rod's recent surge of awesomeness in the playoffs, I've been shopping him around and found a team interested in making a deal.

Just a little background about my league and team:

5x5 scoring (OBP instead of BA), h2h
C, 1B, 2B, 3B, SS, UTL, 3 OF, 4 SP, 2 RP, 5 BENCH
6 keepers, 2 minor leaguers
I inherited an absolute crap team and with trades involving my 1st, 2nd, 4th round picks in 2010, I managed to get these keepers: Alex Rodriguez, Dustin Pedroia, Troy Tulowitzki, Joey Votto, Matt Holliday, Jon Lester, with Colby Rasmus and Madison Bumgarner in the minors

The offer is:

I give: A-Rod and a 3rd round pick in 2011
I get: Miguel Cabrera, Jonathan Broxton, and a 13th round pick in 2010

By giving up A-Rod, I get a top 5 1st baseman who puts up numbers similar to Rodriguez, but is also alot younger. I also get a top 3 closer for many years to come in Broxton. I can always trade Votto for a 3rd in either 2010 or 2011, so giving up a 3rd rounder doesn't matter in my opinion. What do you guys think? Should I pull the trigger?

I would hang onto Arod. Arod will still put up great numbers for several more years.

I would also keep ARod. He is arguably the best hitter in the AL and will be for at least a few more years. He just is clutch and puts up the numbers. I mean he missed a month of the season and still put up about the same numbers as Miggy. I also believe that Miggy is slightly overrated. Not by much but everyone keeps waiting for his 40HR 135RBI 330 season and it just hasn't happened. And with ARod, those numbers are easily within reach in a full season minus a little in the avg. department. Stay with ARod.

I can certainly understand why you'd want the deal. I own A-Rod myself in my keeper, and his age is problematic.

The thing is, this sort of deal makes much more sense for you if you get a guy who's likely going to trump your last keeper by a lot. Broxton simply isn't that.

If you could sell A-Rod for Cabrera and benefit from pick upgrades, I would do so. I wouldn't do it this way though. Votto's better than that.
