Is Holliday worth it?

Postby Surfs up » Mon Oct 19, 2009 7:00 pm

I have been offered Matt Holliday for Lackey and Berkman.
Here are my keepers. We keep nine,
I told the other owner I needed an upgrade in picks if I was going to do a two for one trade.Even a 4th rd for my 9th. If we include picks we have to give one back. Every team has to have at least 16 picks. We roster 25 players .
Pujlos
Reyes
Utley
M. Cabrera
Wright
Lind
Josh Johnson
Vazquez
I am on the fence wheather the keep Berkman, Lackey or Gallardo. This is a 5x5.
I also have Happ, Lilly , Harden,Endrus,Y. Escobar, Davis (Oakland outfielder ) Fowler and Dye

I would do the deal for Holliday. You might be overpaying a little, but with your keeper situation, it really helps you out quite a bit. In fact, I wouldn't push for the pick upgrade, just do the deal as is if the upgrade scares him off.

I would do it as well. I dont think Lackey would be a keeper on your team as of right now.

ditto
I suppose it matters some about where Holliday signs, but that would just seems to determine the degree of how good the deal is for you

Ok, Say I do the deal. I am going to have either the 1-2-3 overall pick in the draft. I posted this a while back. But if I do the Holliday deal this could change things on who I pick if I don't get the first overall pick. Hanley is among them. And of course I would take him. But does this change my draft pick if I don't get the first overall pick?
Crawford
Kinslar
Ad. Gonzalez
Zimmerman
Sabathia
Halladay
Hamels
Haren
McCann
Papelbon
Phillips

Even with Holliday, you still take Hanley, Kinsler, or Gonzalez depending on which pick you get.

Oh I know .Taking Hanley is a no brainer. I wasn't questioning that . Its IF I don't get the first pick and I get the 2-3 overall pick I'm asking about. So you are saying Kinslar and then Ad. Gonzlez and NOT Crawford? What about Zimmerman? And because my hitting is going to be so good would you consider taking one of the pitchers over and of the hitters? If I do the Holliday deal which looks like I will and I don't get Hanley?
And by the way. I asked him to sweeten the deal by adding his 4th rd pick for my 12th. He countered with his 8th for my 12th. Now I am asking him to do his 6th for my 12th.

No you don't take one of the pitchers at all. The best players available will be Kinsler and Gonzalez and that is who you need to take.

Just double checking.I would wait and take a pitcher probably in the third round depending on whos on the board. My second and third round picks will be # 32 and # 48 overall. But my hitting will be loaded. I am surprised that you didn't say Crawford or Zimmerman ahead of Gonzalez. What is your reasoning for taking Gonzalez over Crawford or Zimmerman ? I would take Kinslar with the second pick if I didn't get the first overall.
