3 closers setup?

Postby jebatzel » Fri Mar 19, 2004 2:57 am

Thinking about doing this setup, what do you guys think?

its a 10 team league, so there will be some other teams doing the same thing maybe.

I drafted A. Rhodes and Dotel for my closers and I have G. Mota for MR.

Holds and saves are counted.

We have 4 SP, 3 RP, and a P spot to start pitchers.

So I could do 3 closers and then have one for MR. Or have 2 MR and 2 closers.

Waivers clear March 22 and there are still a few closers available.

I have #2 waiver priority. 3 open spots, I won't be picking up 3 closers though.

J. Julio (Bal - RP), B. Looper (NYM - RP), J. Mesa (Pit - RP), D. Báez (TB - RP), D. Kolb (Mil - RP), D. Riske (Cle - RP) , B. Koch (CWS - RP), and D. Graves (Cin - SP)

Riske, Julio, and Kolb would are my 3 favorite of that group.

MR options available are:

R. Wagner (Cin - RP), J. Valverde (Ari - RP), S. Williamson (Bos - RP), B. Lidge (Hou - RP), and T. Martin (LA - RP)

You can go both ways, but considering the players available (surprising that so many closers are still unclaimed), I'd go with three closers and one MR, focus on saves early, and shift gears during the season if necessary. But again, you can really go both ways.

Graves is no Gagne, but he has the job, and has succeeded in the role in the past. If you have daily lineup changes, that sounds like an excellent plan. ;-D
