Once a player passes 50 IP or 130 AB's, they automatically become farm keepers. Deciding to cut a farm keeper means that I forfeit the free 2 years I get to keep them and they get thrown into the draft pool.

Lee had a 6.29 ERA and 1.52 WHIP in 2007 so Jeter is probably the more reliable option. Going into 2009, you might have kept a Peavy, Webb or Hamels over Jeter and it wouldn't have worked out very well.

I doubt it because odds are there will be more eternal optimists on BJ Upton's upside than those who will give him the cold turkey treatment. I'd still say BJ Upton is a better keeper than Lee or Jeter because of his potential alone.

Count me as one of the optimists. I don't think he is the player we saw in the 08 playoffs, but I don't think he is the 09 version either. His upside is huge(400 OBP with 20 homers and 40 steals), and take into account the injury from this past season, I am more then willing to give him a pass and go get him again this offseason for 2010 and beyond.
