J Hamilton Billingsley Wainwright Haren Pence .282 25 HR 72 rbi 14 sb's McGehee .301 16 HR in 355 AB's Pedroia Figgins .297 42 sb's 114 runs Y Escobar .299 14 HR 72 RBI only 5 sb Abreu Gallardo We get to keep 7 of these for up to 5 years in a standard 5x5 roto; Haren & Pence have only 2 contract years remaining so contracts really aren't much of a factor. 14 team league where we start 8 pitchers, 4 OF, corner & middle inf so Yunel & McGehee with similiar stats could have more value than Pence. If I'm going to have a chance in '10 I need Hamilton to regain his star power so him Pedroia & Wainwright are in & really need to decide on the other 4. Kind of want to gamble on McGehee and leave off Abreu; tho I doubt many of you concur. It is not a total rebuild year tho my keepers won't be as strong as most in the league; we pay out 5 spots so even tho I won't contend for the title a money finsh isn't impossible again either. Are McGehee and/or Y Escobar worth keeping over probable higher rated Pence & Abreu. Should I hold Wain, Haren & Bills and go 4 hitters & 3 SP? thoughts & suggestions welcome
I lost my top hitter to contract years; have had a strong SP staff the last few years now. I will be trying to parlay a SP with a hitter for a better hitter; but in sharp leagues sometimes its tough to get guys to give up stud hitters.Kinda scary going into the season with a brittle Hamilton, no pop from a fast 3rd basemen & an undersized 2nd basemen on offense. Was trying to think outside the box and look to hitters that don't have quite the name value of some of the SP; but would give me a chance to compete in offense. Anytime you don't keep the best overall players you are asking for trouble...
I don't care how many years who has left, keep Pence (more value you need SOME offense to go into the draft with and I don't trust Gallardo).[/quote] this is pretty much how I feel, everyone in the league has 1 keeper SP and even making an even up deal for a hitter might be difficult b4 the draft. I struggled to finish mid-pack in power this year & next will be even tougher. I really think McGehee will hit 25 HR from the 2nd base position & Escobar could approach 20 HR from the tougher SS spot. Certainly either of those guys gets drafted several rounds after Figgins or Gallardo but I'm going to need to gamble or be right with almost every pick in the draft.I'm going to have 1 of the weakest hitting keeper groups even with 4 hitters & 3 SP. I have a couple months to come to my senses
