http://www.reuters.com/article/topNews/ ... JK20091009Mystifying move that can't possibly have any positive outcomes, and will probably piss off a lot of countries that don't like the US as well as a lot of US Republicans. I'm pro-Obama on a lot of fronts but I don't see how they should award it to a president who, 1) is commanding two simultaneous wars with anti-terror strikes in other nations, 2) hasn't created much tangible progress in terms of denuclearization or peace talks with and among Muslim nations.
"I do not view it as a recognition of my own accomplishments but rather an affirmation of American leadership on behalf of aspirations held by people in all nations," he said in the White House Rose Garden.
At least he appears to be able to recognize what a farce this is.

What's next in Bizarro World? Jamarcus Russell wins the NFL MVP, Clint Eastwood comes out of the closet, and Scarlett Johansson moves in with me?
I mean I like Obama and voted for him, but it's like he's won the award simply for getting elected...a hell of an accomplishment but worthy of the nobel.

I would like to hear their reasoning. From what I understand, nominations for this prize ended two weeks into Obama's presidency. I cannot imagine a scenario where this has a reasonable explanation.
Is the Nobel Peace Prize becoming the Heisman of world awards? This is a joke.

Keep wreves in General Talk in 2011!
