the can't play against same division wildcard team rule

Postby BitterDodgerFan » Thu Oct 01, 2009 9:34 pm

what is the purpose of the rule that prohibits division series being between 2 teams in the same division?

shouldn't the best record team play the worst record in the first round regardless of whether they are from same division?

what are they trying to prevent here?

The Yankees and Red Sox from playing each other in the opening round.

I think they're wanting matchups that haven't been seen all season already.

haha well it didn't really matter because cards have the worst record by 1 game behind colorado. so LA does get to play the worst record team.

Same for the Yankees in the AL. If they change the rule, IMO they shouldn't make it best record vs. wild card, but best record vs. worst record.

I agree . Whats the difference. The Yankees and Red Sox could end up playing each other in the next round.Should be best against worse. No matter what .

Yeah, and if the Yankees and Red Sox play each other in the next round, it's a nice, long, 7 game series with the ALCS tag attached to it that people are more likely to tune their televisions in to watch. You guys have to think about this in terms of making money, because that's what the MLB is in the business of doing.
