Checked out Markakis's numbers today for fun and noticed his walk rate has been almost cut in half with a slightly lower K rate. His SLG has dropped off considerably and he is having his worst offensive season. Is the walk decrease a blip on the radar or what? Weird.....

it looks more like his '08 BB rate increase was a blip since his '06, '07 and '09 BB rates are very close. Nothing else looks that far out of line. His .186 isop compared to .157 is fairly close.

Understood but as a young and very talented player, wouldn't one naturally assume the walk rate is his improving as a hitter? It's not as if it was a small increase.....but perhaps you are right.

One thing contributing to his "worst season" is the influx of lefties in the AL East. Markakis went from ~30% of PA vs. lefties in '07 & '08 to over 40% in '09.

I have Markakis in a competitive team. Was looking in June or July at splits and batted balls trying to figure out if his struggles were legit and noticed he had just about passed his 2008 ABs vs. lefties already.

The AL East part is purely anecdotal but it makes sense when you think about CC, Price, Romero, Rzypencki, Cecil, etc

you guys are acting like markakis is a 10 year vet. hes a young(er) player still developing and pitchers are more than likely discovering his weaknesses and if the stat just mentioned is true, hes facing more lefties.

No, it's false I like to make up stats for fun. Just like you don't like to spend the 2 minutes to verify the accuracy of stats.
